Re: IML: Turn Signal Indexing

Ah yes, but the turn signal switch on a '60 Imperial is different from 1962. The lever is remote and mounted on the dash to the left of the speedometer. The cancelling switch is in the column, connected electrically to the lever. While the column itself may share some characteristics and service procedures of the newer car, the turn signal set up is completely different.

1960 is a rather unique model year, in many ways more so than the others.

Rob;

I think you are on the right track. I looked at the section of the '62 service manual that talks about power steering gear replacement. After the steering wheel and turn signal switch etc. plus the lower steering wheel column trim cover has been removed, it talks about removing the retainer snap ring from the groove in the steering tube at the top of the bearing. Then it says to remove the jacket tube shield to allow access to the column tube clamp and remove the screws attaching the steering jacket tube clamp at the instrument panel and remove the clamp. It mentions that there is an inspection panel on Imperials. I think this may be under the carpet. Unfortunately there is not a complete assembly drawing or picture of the procedure they describe. It does not show how to line up the parts for reassembly. It sounds like a good candidate for a set of digital pictures for posterity.
