Origianlity is a God to some people, they take pleausre in telling you what
is non original on your car..
In rebuilding my L*80 Convertible Coupe by Locke I have taken the decision
to make sure that the car is comfortable and safe to use for both myself and
other road users.
I have had the dynamo (generator) re wound and rebuilt as a 12v unit, I
have fitted quartz halogen bulbs in the Headlights, the car now has 2 original
rear light units instead of the one originally supplied, the reversing light,
yes 1929 cars had that, have both been converted into indicators. UK supplied
cars also had small sidelights on top of the wings (fenders) as well as the cowl
lights and these have been converted to flashing indicators at the front.
I can now drive safely at night knowing other road users will see me
and see my intentions.
I have had to source a replacement carb as the one on the car was
totally wrong and I have had no joy in finding a Stromberg OX4 (in fact
some respected carb specialists in the US tell me they have never seen
one)
Do I wait until the correct part comes along or do I use the car and
enjoy... Any "concours" judge would get short shrift me if they criticised these
features....
But then I am not a great fan of those type of events and even less
if cars are trailered to and from them!
