Title: Re: IML: Lean burn and exhaust help...
I recommend keeping it, especially on a car with such low mileage.

You can still buy a new or remanufactured Lean Burn module from your local Chrysler dealer.

My ‘78 Salon has the same engine, though it’s a 49-state catalyst car. Has just over 18,500 miles now, and it still passes smog check in CA like a new car. Considering this engine was not available in CA back in 11978 because it didn’t meet our emissions standards, I say Lean Burn works.

Canada-bound NYBs did not come with a catalyst in 1978. This is correct for your car.

Sounds like a gorgeous car! Do you have pix posted anywhere?

IF you're really intent on keeping the Lean Burn system, before you op for a new control unit, check the EGR valve and the vacuum operated heat cross over valve in the left exhaust manifold. You should remove the EGR valve to check for carbon deposits that can hold the valve open.If the poor idle conditions are a lean condition, then feather the choke blade shut very slowly, if the idle improves then you're lean. Thats a carb, EGR, or a possible vacuum leak.It could also be low speed ignition issues with the lean burn.As far as exhaust, any good custom exhaust shop should be able to "Build" what you want. Ya'll have a nice day, Dave.
