Do it all at once.If you are worried enough to decide that you need to have a dual reservoir master cylinder, why in the world would you leave the rest of the old parts on the car?
All of my Imperials brake systems have been rebuilt using the original style parts. I'm comfortable with the old single pot master cylinder as long as I know what is going on underneath me, and I do. I have driven over 3,000,000 miles in my life, with about 750,000 behind the wheel of my Imperials. I never lost my brakes without warning, and never worried about needing a dual reservoir master cylinder to cover my bottom. I don't consider myself unsafe or the least bit careless.
If I was planning to drive my car everyday, I wouldn't consider running it with 40+ year old changeable brake components even if the master cylinder had a separate chamber for each wheel.

The archives were helpful and informative but I still would like to hear from
a few veterans. My Imperial will be a daily driver in future and I want to convert the MC
to a dual chamber for obvious reasons. Then I will deal with a complete brake job - the current system works fine and is responsive
but I eventually want it al replaced - because I plan to drive to Carlisle (1000 miles RT) and maybe even Chattanooga (2000+ miles RT).
Is this plan possible or should I just bite the bullet and do it all at once?

Rockauto.com.You can order all your stuff online, they are not expensive and deliver very
fast (took them 4 days to get that parcel to the Netherlands!). If you can find your brake stuff under 1961 Imperial, look at 1961 New Yorker!
