Re: IML: 62 fuel pump questions...

Hi Chris,
I just did this today on one of my project cars, you can use the grease to hold the rod up in place, or you can use a hacksaw blade to hold the rod in place until you get the fuel pump into position, and then start tightening the fuel pump screws equally, until the fuel pump is seated firmly. Be sure and use some kind of gasket seal (like you would use on a valve cover gasket) on the fuel pump gasket. Be sure and lube just inside the "arm" of the fuel pump with 30W motor oil, and also lube the end of the arm (where it contacts the pump rod with 30W) before you install it.
Tighten the fuel pump bolts down equally and you should have a good tight connection.
If the balancer on the flywheel is at top dead center on cylinder "1" the cam should be on it's lowest point, and the fuel pump rod should be "in" as far as it can go.
Hope this helps,

Fellow Imperialists,

I am going to install a new (yes new, not refurished! Don't you love Kanter?)
fuel pump on my 413. Any pitfalls, warnings, suggestions you may have will be very welcome.
I've heard stories about the little piston that actuates the pump falling into the oil pan, etc.
So please enlighten me before I make some boneheaded mistake...

I appreciate it,

Should never use steel wool on chrome or stainless. It will leave behind
deposits that will make it rust again.

Let's pretend I have a '62 Crown with surface rust on the chrome of the
windshield surround. It polishes up nicely with that blue, ammonia-laden
stuff, but there's still some rust left... What do you guys recommend,
extremely fine steel wool?
