Hey guys, my 2 cts worth - I drive a police car i Las Vegas and we use LED light bars. The LEDS are GenIII and we use colored (blue and red) behind clear lenses. Colored lenses ALWAYS use white LEDS. So, if you want to use LEDs for your tail lights, you have to use white LEDS behind the red tail light lenses. Red bulbs simply will not give you enough light.

I would think that the red ones would be even dimmer then the white. The white ones don’t work as well through the red taillight lens. My test showed the white ones to be pretty dim. I talked with the company and they said it would be no problem to return these for the correct red ones.
The ones I had ordered previously for my trailer application were the red ones and they worked quite well. But I must remember that the trailer tail lights were relatively small compared to the tail light caverns on my 67. We shall see when I get the red ones if there is enough light to fill up that much area.
