Frederick, I do use the Ram for towing. I purchased it used, and it had the 4.10?s in it, it also had the diesel and 6-speed I wanted in a standard cab long bed. Not many around here like that. Ordering it new I probably would have gone with a 3.55/3.54 for the differentials (it?s a 4x4). I am considering changing the differential gears as well. Not as much novelty in that though, and it really wouldn?t help this thread? The gear splitting it a manual process, so on an automatic, you would have to manually shift the transmission, then the OD unit on, then switch the OD off while selecting the next gear on the transmission. On the truck I was figuring on using a switch mounted to the shifter. Gear Vendors recommends a dimmer style floor switch, so with the seeking radios, there would be 3. On a cross county drive at night your left leg would be dancing! The ?normal? installation of the GV unit uses a throttle mounted switch that will kick the unit out of OD under heavy throttle, but turn it on under light throttle, essentially a 4th gear. That?s the same as the A500/518 As for the other Rob, going to the A500/518 in the J-body Imperial would be easier since the trans crossmember is only for the transmission, not a torsion bar anchoring point. From what I have heard, the 500/518 clears the M-body transmission tunnel, so it should be fine in your Imp. I believe there is a guy on Moparts.com that did the conversion in his 5th Ave. George, if you want a non-lockup Mopar OD trans, I think the one to look for is a ?93-ish 518. I think the non-lockup was phased out in ?94 or ?95. >From what I have been told, B-vans are a good source for them. OK, I need to get out to the garage now and get some work done. Rob McCall ?67 LeBaron, staying with the 727 (unless I get a deal on a SRT10 quad cab drivetrain, then all bets are off) -----Original Message----- From: mailing-list-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mailing-list-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Frederick Joslin Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 9:20 AM To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: IML: 'overdrive' details I would change the gears in the Ram unless you really need them for towing. A big part of the overdrive units as I recall is that effectively you go from a 3 speed to a 6 speed. This allows you to put higher numerical gears in your rear end (3.55 for example) for acceleration, but still get good highway ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
