RE: IML: Fan clutches





I don't understand the logic. It states you should replace your fan clutch when you replace your water pump (I'm okay with that as maintenance, the water pump usually outlasts the fan clutch) but it states that because your fan clutch and water pump operate off the same shaft that when your water pump fails your fan clutch fails too. What is that supposed to mean? Once you have a moving shaft on the water pump, the fan clutch should be fine. The two parts are bolted together and the failure of one should have very little to do with the other. Am I missing something?
