Re: IML: Need some power window motors for my '68

Tom,
Are there ANY sounds coming from the doors AT ALL? Humming,
clicking, whirring? If there is sound then the "nylon bearings"
have turned to gravel. I had to get a kit from Auto Zone for
each of my four windows and rebuit them. The refurb kit is VERY
easy!!! It comes with the inner and outter gears as well as the
"nylon bearings" AND a packet of plenty of grease to do the job.
I think that the kit was about $13-$19. Now, they all work as
good as new. I also repaired the window switches at the same
time. ALSO, check the repair section on window replacement here.
By the waym I did NOT have to remove the glass, nor the
mechanism; however, good reliable clamps and a long stout screw
driver were VERY helpful. BE VERY CAREFUL!! Removing the motor
will RELEASE the spring wound scissor mechanism!!! I have scars
on the backs of the fingers on my right hand to prove it! It
bled like mad and I have a rare blood type! (That happened with
my 69 Imperial about 1973.) Also, be careful of the routing of
the wiring coming out of the motor. I made the mistake of not
tying it down and the motor wiring caught on a window stop and
yanked one of the wires out of the motor. I was able to solder
the wire back in palce in side the motor.
The things we go through for our cars..

Aeyn & Patrick
