I agree with Paul's advice. It is most likely a valve cover gasket or something else leaking onto your exhaust manifold. However, I was always told that 440s did not use exhaust manifold gaskets. Don't know for sure, I've never pulled mine.

<snip>....the problem isn't likely to be the exhaust manifold. If it is, it is more likely the gasket, which can rupture from incorrect tightening of the fasteners. Cracks and fractures are pretty obvious, visually.
