Re: IML: 1960 roof trim leaking

Rob, Did not see a direct contact for Donn.

The roof spears were sealed at the factory using a foam washer.  I cut new foam washers from foam I found at an aircraft supply outlet.  You just need a good dense foam to make the washers (about a quarter inch thick).  The washer goes around the post then reinstall on the car.  After the nut is on apply some 3M brand strip caulk which is like a sticky clay.  It is available from Eastwood  1-800-345-1178.  www.eastwood .com.  Invaluable stuff!  Seal the nut with the strip caulk.  this is how the factory did it.  You could just remove the leaking nut and squeeze some silicone in there but odds are others will leak in the future.  Since the headliner is out anyway I would go ahead and remove the trim and any dirt that is underneath and reseal all the posts.  This is a rare occurance but I guess the foam may have rotted of perhaps rust has formed below the spear.  Richard

Sorry I can't help you with this one, cause I never have the roof trim
removed of my car..

Best wishes and good luck,
