The A/C clutch on these earlier cars is a bit different from most. The
clutch coil is the rotating member and has a pair of brushes for power
and ground. The brushes can stick or wear. They can be made out of the
appropriate size power tool brushes. The clutch plate pulls off by
removing the center bolt then using a fine thread bolt in the center to
push it off the shaft. The coil and bearing can then be removed to
inspect the brushes and slip rings. Test for continuity between the slip
rings not to ground.
