Ken: The A/C clutch on these earlier cars is a bit different from most. The clutch coil is the rotating member and has a pair of brushes for power and ground. The brushes can stick or wear. They can be made out of the appropriate size power tool brushes. The clutch plate pulls off by removing the center bolt then using a fine thread bolt in the center to push it off the shaft. The coil and bearing can then be removed to inspect the brushes and slip rings. Test for continuity between the slip rings not to ground.
