Well, this has suddenly become very confusing.
The way I see it, Durabrake isn't going to do anything unless they receive enough capital to start the project. If that doesn't happen, our deposits will be returned. I assumed from the beginning that this would be a cash deal, so I sent a check. I am expecting that if Shaun doesn't get enough money, and the project doesn't proceed, he will advise me that my check will either be destroyed or returned.
I am comfortable enough with this to leave my check in Shaun's hands until a decision has been made. It has not yet cleared my account and I am not placing a stop payment on my check.
It sounds like something has occured that could end the possibility of having this project carried out by Precision Brake, should the Durabrake deal not work out. Frankly, I had also assumed that during all of the discussion on the IML about Durabrake, that the Precision Brake project was no longer an option. Indeed, once we all sent our money to another company, and production was underway, what would be the reason for it?
For the time being, I am content to wait and see what happens. I am not worried that my check is going to be cashed without anything in return. If I had felt that way, I would not have sent the money in the first place. It is true that I placed my trust in someone that I did not know, but that was my choice.
If things with Durabrake don't work out, I would like to think that we will still be able to discuss an approach to Precision. If Leslie doesn't wish to handle it (and I don't blame her at all), then maybe someone else will.
If anyone has a specific reason for thinking that something is wrong here, we all need to know, otherwise, speculation may kill this project once and for all. At that point we still will not have spare rotors for our cars.

What makes you think that Durabrake will be outsourcing the production overseas? If you do a Google search on Durabrake, you might find a 2003 letter from the Federal Transit Administration regarding the Buy America policy applicable to municipal transit buses, in which Durabrake was cited as one of four companies that was able to comply with the Buy America criteria. Leslie, as the coordinator of this project on the IML, are you now telling us to put stop-payments on the deposits that we have already sent to Durabrake? Are you cancelling this project with Durabrake and now starting over again with Precision Brake? Is Precision Brake's quote the same: $179 each, with a minimum of 50 orders? What comparative information can you provide us to support your advice that Durabrake is a fraud but Precision Brake is not?
How many of us have already sent our deposits to Durabrake? If you'll pardon the bad pun, is it already too late to put the brakes on this project? And again, Leslie, could you please give us all the information you have as to why we should put the brakes on this project now?
