I don't disagree.

However, the carb is 36 years old and an even older design. I am sure that a good rebuild of the carb that I have would improve its performance. Also carb technology has improved since this one was designed and I believe that a new carb would be even better that the original one rebuilt. 

What is the CFM rating for the original Carter AVS for a 1969 LeBaron?  Was it any different from the other 350 HP 440's from that year. What about the 383's carbs.

Just because it is 36 years old doesn't mean that it needs work. If the car runs fine,leave it alone. I have heard of people paying big money to have their carb rebuilt, only to have it function worse than before. If you want to do it yourself, and then learn all about it while you are at it, that's a different story, but I would still pick one that didn't function properly.
 
Why buy trouble???

There is a string going around about carbs. This made me think about the carb on my 69 LeBaron.
I have the Carter AVS. What is the correct part number for this carb for my car? I would like to know if this is the original carb for the car.
The carb seems to work fine, but is probably original and thus 36 years old. A shop in town will rebuild it for $225 which is close to the same price for a new one. Is there any benefit in getting the original carb rebuilt other than for the originality? Would a new carb be better and if so what CFM should I get.
