It is not true that Imperials from '65 to '73 shared the same basic platform. 1965 and 1966 Imperials were still based on their old design. The rest of the full sized Chrysler line adopted the new platform in 1965, but the Imperial didn't share it until 1967.

While it is true that the Imperials from '65 to '73 shared the same
basic platform or underpinnings, that shouldn't be construed as further
evidence that they were all part of the same design era or trend. ?
Stylists can rework a basic platform to the point that you can't even
recognize that two cars share the same platform-- witness today's Ford
Five Hundred and the Volvo S80.
I think it's a tribute to Chrysler designers that they were able to make Imperials from these years look so different. ?And though it's a funny image, I don't think the fuselage cars look like a hippo on roller skates! ?:)

Very true. ?The platform and cowl of the 1969-73 fuselage models dated

to 1965. ? Those are the expensive parts to tool due to the size of the

the
1965-68 platform for the fuselage models in 1969 resulted in more than
a few
comments that the new body styles looked a little heavy and plump due
to the
narrow rear wheel track/tread. ?This was especially true on the Polara
and
Monaco and less so on the Fury. ?The Chrysler and Imperial did not
have this
problem.
The Imperial's front track was 62.4" from 1967 through 1973 while the rear was increased from 61.1" in 1967-1969 to 62.0" for 1970.
The Polara, on the other hand, had a rear track of ?60.7" in 1967-69 which was increased to 63.4" in 1970. ?Made for a much more balanced look and less like a hippo on roller skates.

I don't know how long it lasted (I suspect until 1973) but the 1969hard
"redesigned" Chrysler was the same chassis design as the 67/68. ?Maybeto believe but true.
