RE: IML: 727 Transmission Rebuild $$$

$3000 sounds a bit high to me. I just recently had the
transmission/transaxle rebuilt on my 89 Dodge Spirit for about $1800. It
was in pretty bad shape too. Axle seals were leaking and the ring gear had
broken teeth that got ground into the fluid and contaminated the entire
unit. I know the transaxle design is based somewhat on the 727 (only
smaller). But the fact that it's basically a transmission and a rear end
combined makes it more complicated than a regular transmission.

I've not rebuilt one of these myself but my Dad (may he rest in peace) has
done so numerous times over the years. He told me they are one of the
simplest transmissions ever built and probably the most indestructible.

I recently got quoted $3000 to rebuild my 59 crown's transmission. Is
there that much of a variance in the years?
