RE: IML: Adding AC to a Car

Classic Auto Air is offering a "perfect fit" model for several Mopars, although not specifically listed for C bodies. The set for E bodies does include a choice of underdash or hookup to existing in-dash vents, and the A body and B body set up is underdash vents, but the evaporator is in a custom heater box, not hanging down low like the old underdash units. If you are wanting to go strictly with factory in-dash A/C outlets, the only choice will be to replace the entire dash and dash frame, wiring, etc, with that from an A/C car, as well as the complete heater box and related stuff. Worse, Mopars from the late 60's and early 70's had a different firewall stamping for A/C cars for at least some bodies, so those are a pretty big job to put a used factory set up in.

I'm contemplating buying a Chrysler that was ordered without AC. I'm wondering just how difficult & costly it would be to add "correct" from-the-period AC. Not an underdash unit, but as close to factory AC as possible. Can it be done?
