Recently my 73 started "choking
down" as if she wasn't getting enough fuel. Now she stalls and I don't dare take
her but a few blocks from home. I removed her fuel filter and found RUST!
in the gas. :(
I have dealt with that
vendor several times and gotten very good service although he is a bit
"proud" of his stuff (meaning it's expensive). A better
alternative might be to take the tank out and take it to a radiator shop in
your area that can boil it out and seal it. My '59s tank was done almost
six years ago. I had to pull it the other day to fix a leak around the
sending unit and found it still looks perfect inside. If I remember
correctly it cost less than $100 to have it done.
When you remove the tank look at the J
bolts that support it. If they are rusty don't try to get them loose
just cut them! If you break the piece sticking down from the body that
they slip in to you will be in a mess. You can get new bolts as well as
a float and sending unit gasket from www.gastanks.com
Go ahead and replace all the fuel lines
back there if you haven't already done so. Also look for a little piece
of rubber line that runs in to the front stub frame under the passengers
door. That one is often overlooked and if it leaks you stop moving
(don't ask how I know).
