Re: IML: '66 Fuel sending unit

I have removed and reinstalled a sending unit from the 66 Imperial gas tank
without dropping the tank. The sender will need some sideways twisting in
order to clear everything but it can be done.

Use a florescent light when working around that area -- incandescent lamps
are too hot and might ignite fuel vapors. Use a rubber hammer or brass so
you don't make sparks when removing the retaining ring on the sender head.

One difficult part is getting most of the fuel out of the tank. You can only
leave a few gallons in the tank or when you remove the sender, you'll get
spilling.

If you have any doubt about rust or crud inside the tank, then use this
opportunity to drop the tank for a good flush while you do the sender.
