To eliminate a source of some confusion here, the Lockheed brakes used on Chrysler Corporation cars up to 1962 (as well as numerous other American and European makes) must not be called, or connected with, Bendix. The Total-Contact Centre-Plane brakes were made by Lockheed and not Bendix. The Lockheed brakes used on Chrysler products were not self-adjusting and did not have the emegency brake on the rear wheels. Chrysler's first use of Bendix brakes, with the emrgency brakes working off the rear wheel brakes, was on the 1960 Valiant. The Plymouth and Dodge Dart (B body) adopted Bendix brakes for 1962 and for 1963 the Imperial, Chrysler and Dodge 880 adopted Bendix brakes. Although Wagner and Lockheed merged, Bendix was not (and is not) connected. Wagner-Lockheed is a product of Federal-Mogul while the Bendix name is used by Honeywell (brake materials) and Dana (commercial brake applications). Wagner brakes were similar to Bendix but used rods to activate the adjusters instead of the Bendix cables. Do not confuse Bendix brakes with Lockheed brakes. They are two separate braking systems manufactured by two separate firms.
