what is the trick to get the cover off? I have taken the two bolts off the
back.  is that all that holds it on?

That o-ring replacement should be no problem no matter what pump,,,you may
want to try and replace the reservoir cover!! . If its bent a new oring may
not help. Anyway--it is a standard oring,,,can be obtained from any plumbing
  supply.

IF you are lucky you have the new pump.
The pulley must be a press on type and the return flow is to the
reservoir,,,  not the pump casting itself. That an easy way to tell.

how do you identify the pump?   the numbers I find are a14----1738652
  and
4cs. napa goes back to 58, the ring for the reservoir is the leak.  it
  looks
like some one had knocked the reservoir cover on around the edge. thanks
ps how many people are going to drive around Halloween?   has anyone had
  end
front brake stick ( will not roll forward but will roll backwards) ?

IT is easy to rebuild--I could not believe how easy,,,as long as you
  have
the late 57 through 66? pump. (CALLED THE SLIPPER PUMP)
The earlier pump is a nightmare.  Are you talking about the o ring for
  the
reservoir or the seal for the shaft under the front pulley? Both were
  shot
on my slipper pump and easily replaced.
