I read an interview years ago with Steven King where he related that he had written the beginning and end to Christine years before the middle part. That is probably why the inconsistancies exist. I don't think the original story was written for a Fury, that was added later. If you look close at the chrome valve covers in the movie the lettering is "350 cu. in."
