Expert Posts: 2092 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | . All of us know how to decipher Detroit-built 1957 Chrysler Data Tag codes; It’s most easy to understand: the optional order codes just stamped on the tag. I did my little “investigation” about letter “ABCDE” codes located in the lower row of these tag; A9 – order code 359 – Insert Moulding: optional on Windsor and Saratoga, not available on New Yorker or 300C; C2 – order code 562 – Sweepspear Moulding: optional on Windsor, standard on Saratoga (single) and New Yorker (dual) So, Two-tone painted Windsors (roof and insert – in same color, body – in another one) should have A9 code on the tag; Two-tone painted Windsors (roof – in one color, body – in another one) could have C2 code on the tag and no A9; Single-tone painted Windsors could have C2 code on the tag (and no A9) as well; Two-tone painted Saratogas (roof and insert – in same color, body – in another one) should have A9 code on the tag; Two-tone painted Saratogas (roof – in one color, body – in another one) couldn’t have A9 or C2 codes on the tag – (C2 is standard); Single-tone painted Saratogas couldn’t have A9 or C2 codes on the tag as well; I posted some pictures with “A9” and “C2” codes and I hope my “investigation” was correct… More pictures in same format (car / data tag) would be appreciated… I’ll start with Saratoga; Paint XAX – two-tone paint with insert: the code “A9” shows that the Insert Moulding is present! Expert Posts: 2092 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | . And the last example: Paint BX – two-tone paint: no code “A9” – no Insert Moulding, “C2” code – Spear Moulding – Yes! Unknown “D2”code… What it could be? Drip Rail Moulding or Dual Exhaust? Locked Luggage Compartment or Third-Row Kiddie Seat? Power Tail Gate Window? (although I see a crank on the tail gate) (6(1).JPG) (6(2).JPG) Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: The Centennial State | I wonder if you may be able to email Chrysler Historical to see if they have a decode of the ABCDE codes? Some of those could possibly be interior options. Or perhaps the broadcast sheets give a clue? Great work, Igor! Edited by Lancer Mike 2024-02-15 8:53 AM

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10089 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: So. Cal | My first Windsor was made in LA and it has no letter codes like this on it, so that doesn't help you. But my second one was made in Detroit and it does have A9 on there, which does match to the presence of a 2-tone scheme. The chopped 4dr sedan that I parted out had C2 code, and it did come only with side spears. So my 2 vehicles match what you are saying. Expert Posts: 2092 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | . Thanks for sharing Nathan! I had this data tag picture already, but had not the picture of car itself, so the gap is filled now – thank you! LA-built cars painted in two-tone color scheme with color insert have not any digit on the data tags; The two tone-paint scheme codes are showing this item like XAX, XRX, NLN etc. implies the presence of the color sweep molding already. Regarding the LA-built cars equipped with sweep spear moulding, this item is showing as “1” in the “M3” slot, I guess, like on the picture below. This car originally has been painted in standard two tone scheme, LESS color insert – the roof in one color, the body in other one – see the paint code HCC. Later, it has been repainted in deluxe two-tone color scheme WITH color insert, like on the picture. Thus, I can assume: M3 = 1 = order code 371 = Sweep Spear Moulding; M4 = 2 = order code 372 = Windshield Upper Moulding (standard on NY and 300C and optional on Windsor and Saratoga) http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=44830&...
