The 300 club is your only real option if you are trying to match an engine to it's chassis. However, if you are trying to find the VIN for your own car, that's the wrong way to go, as you have no idea if the engine is original to your car or not. The engine in my 300C, for instance, is an obvious transplant because it's date is too early for the car's VIN. If you can find the number stamped on the frame, that number is your engine number. That would verify if the engine is original or not. You can contact Chrysler historical for the IBM card to find the engine number for your VIN, but you can't go the other way around.

However, if you send a picture of your car, and the body tag, to Chrysler Historical, and ask VERY nicely, they may be able to find it for you. The SCHED number is the date, and the ITEM number, along with the type of car should nail it down. But they don't usually do that.

That is illegal. Stellantis would laugh at you if you made that request.

I agree Nathan,- but if the stamping on motor is "very close" after the VIN I think you could 99.9% sure, thats still the matching motor.

I understand your concern but the reason for this request is as follows
I do have the vin number on a family members old title ,but the vin tag from what I can see is not there only minor imprint .
I do also have the engine number relating to the car it's believed to be a one owner car .

At present the title is being pursued at the DMV and they are saying it's somewhat damaged in the way of talking on this problem due to signs of the original tag imprint and the original title .

If you are a member of the 300 Int'l club, the original engine number and a copy of the IBM card is available.
You will need a paid up membership, a penciled rubbing copy of the data tag and the VIN #.

Without a VIN tag, your only legal option is to pay to have an officer of the law come to the car, (or drag it over to them) and have them affix a state-issued VIN sticker on the vehicle. The new VIN won't have anything to do with the old VIN. It'll be just the next number in their database. The car then goes into temporary ownership status for 1 year (with a required fee?), in case someone else claims the car is legally theirs. Then when you paint the car, you have to sand & paint around that sticker. The original owner will have to fill out a bunch of paperwork to get that done, stating the facts of the situation. If you don't know who the previous owner was, then you have to prove that you made a valid attempt to get ahold of them to fill in the paperwork, and it's a total pain in the neck. The DMV will take your original title when they do this and won't issue you a new one until the 1 year is over. But they will give you temporary paperwork, not sure exactly what. It's not an option to keep the original title, or the original VIN number.

If he does find the original VIN tag, it can be re-spot welded to the car (sort-of illegally?), even if you have to cut the panel out first and re-weld it back into the car. Don't drill holes and use rivets.

Thankyou for this input just to let you know this is Laura car who is dealing with her father's title at the DMV at present ,interesting to know about the temporary ownership for one year ,I guess this means the car cannot be exported I'm guessing til cleared ,if the DMV go down this road with a next digit vin number .
