I am searching for both rear axle shafts for a 1961 Chrysler Newport Sedan.

Location: So. Cal | I believe they are all the same from '57-'61, except for Imperial. I have 2 of them I could sell, but you might try to get them locally first, because I can imagine that the shipping cost is going to be a shock. |

Location: Victoria Australia | I don't like my chances of finding them here. I have rang one mob, waiting for a reply from another and searched the net.
I damaged one of mine trying to get the drum off. Am now looking into converting to rear disc's so I don't have this problem again.
Can you PM me with a price for your two minus shipping please.
At least I know I can get them from you if I have no luck closer to home.

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | I guess that you damaged the thread on the shaft. You need one tool like the one in my picture (if you cannot find one - make one) or just get a thread file and fix it. The thread should be 3/4” x 16 UNF

I have 3 complete rear axle/diff assemblies here (no brakes on 2 of them I think) in Perth off 1960 dodge phoenix.
Same problem though. freight would be a killer.
You said you want to go to discs, if so, you really want a later model rear assembly to get away from the tapered axles.
If your car is not set up for dual circuit brakes already, there is a bit of work involved in changing it over.
I have been doing this myself recently. New M/C, bending up new brake lines to everywhere.
I was going disc front, but have changed my mind for now. I was always keeping the factory rear though.
If you go a later rear, you would also need to consider if you use the factory parking brake of the one on the new rear.
I would be surprised if someone om the east coast cant help you out though, have you asked on the facebook page?

Location: Victoria Australia | It is more than just the thread that I damaged Wizard, I didn't put the axle shaft nut on when using the puller and ended up splitting the end of the shaft.
I used a flame to try and break the seal and thought it was coming then noticed the damage, it is completely mangled up to the split pin hole.
The drum is still on and I am thinking of making up another type of puller I saw on this site. I forget the name of it but I have the pic's and it looks like it might be more successful by slightly walk the drum off. Otherwise I might be forced to grind it off.
I have changed my mind regarding rear disc's, have talked to Hopper Stoppers here, they cannot do it on tapered axles and said pretty much the same as you have.
I will try Facebook and in the mean time I have found two axles in Perth but with the asking price, I think it would be cheaper to get them from the US.
What sort of cost would be expected to deliver two axles from the states or from Perth to Victoria?

Location: Mandurah, Western Australia | MW Imports in Toowomba have a warehouse in LA and ship to Aus so you can have someone in California ship to them but you still have to then ship inside Aus at the other end, not cheap |
