A number of F/L member have converted their cars with Powerflite Transmission to a Torqueflite and there are many
Threads covering the conversion. I have started collecting parts and pieces but when it comes to the Push Buttons themselves that are required to fit a 56 Dodge P/B housing, it seams these are very rare. The buttons that fit the 5 Button Shifter are different than what are in the Powerflite 4 button shifter. As I am told, the Push Buttons I will need are from a 57 or 58 truck with a Loadflite (Torqueflite in disguise). Where I live there is a company that has a 3D scanner and printer and if I talk really nice (suck up) they just might print up a set. Now that is where I am stalled. I need a set of the buttons to copy. Does any one have a set they would be willing to lend out? I am not sure where I would find the chrome cover for the buttons. Maybe the printed copy could make it look like the chrome cover. I would also get the 5 button cover plate printed. OR does someone have a set for sale?

Del: In the short run, all four of the 56 Dodge Powerflite push buttons can be used on your 57 Dodge 5 button Torqueflite shifter box.
as shown below. You would still need an equivalent "2" button but R = R, N = R, D = D and L = 1.

Location: So. Cal		I think you meant that N=N. But how does L work well for the 1 position? Isn't the powerflite button centered in the housing, and the 1 is offset? I'm guessing the 3 speed shifter places the location differently so that it works out?

Yeh, my bad. N = N

Regarding why the PF L works as a TF 1, it must be because of the design and location of the "1" shifter plate. It works.

But really, Del S. is looking for a set of 5 early TF buttons for his project.

At one point there was a fellow on eBay who was making PF and TF buttons. Glenn R bought some I think for his TF into 56 Plymouth project.

But even new plastic buttons, doesn't solve the problem of metal surrounds that exposed ends of the buttons need.

Maybe somebody has some TF buttons for Del?

Location: So. Cal		I have 2 or 3 of these loadflite shifters. But I am planning to use them on my '56 Plymouths eventually, and maybe one of them on my truck. However, I won't need the Dodge faceplates or truck housings for the other two, so I would be inclined to sell those to someone. I believe the shifter is the same one used on all of the '57-'58 cars, with only differences of backup lights & starter switches. So those aren't difficult to get, and I probably have a couple of extras from the '57 Chryslers that I parted out.

Hi Nathan, I will buy one of the faceplates from you. I am assuming they are the same as Dave’s photo above. But this still leave me looking for a #2 button as Dave has suggested. Send me a message and I will give you my email address and we can go from there
