Regular Posts: 61 ![]() ![]() Location: Okielahoma | Jim here in Tulsa Oklahoma, Rough and rusty, 361 swivel seat car, I wish it had power windows but what can you do? This will be a very long term project for me as i still have to build my small shop. I'm starting to collect missing pieces now but I'll need the usual major sheet metal sections including trunk floor, front and rear quarters, rockers and some front floor sections, I'm also missing most of the chrome and stainless trim except for around the top. I'm calling Big M tomorrow to see what they have. I've already had a discussion with Mr Fridberg in Sweden concerning fabricated sheet metal parts but he only does that when he has the car in front of him, which is understandable. Does anyone in the states reproduce any high quality pieces for these? Thanks in advance for any help, I'll have many questions over time. Make them yourself, heavily modify stuff from the states, or buy them from Sweden. The guy in Sweden that makes the panels is Lennart Svärd. Regular Posts: 61 ![]() ![]() Location: Okielahoma | Got some time today to mess with it, you'll notice the car arrived before i was able to build my shop, you can't plan when cars pop up. I know it looks backwards with new tires already but it came with some magnum wheels that were too deep to even bolt on all the way, long story short, it didn't roll like at all and I'm too cheap to buy something just to roll it around then replace later with other tires. I like to think LLoyd Sr. will be glad his car won't go to the scrap heap, I noticed those labels and remembered taking my dad's label maker back in the early 70's and covering everything I could find with those things, my guess is, that's what happened here, I can't see an adult putting those on there. I'm cleaning it out in these pictures, also messing with the 361 to see if looks worth trying to turn over, it's complete with trans and everything, the radiator looks like the only thing missing. Question: what's that lever looking thing pictured to the left of the emergency brake? I'm not at all familiar with that, also that speaker switch, dealer option thing possibly or just JC whitney aftermarket? If you can't get the motor to turn over, you often can by taking the heads off and cleaning out the cylinders, if you are willing to do that without rebuilding it afterward. | ||

I'm not sure just yet if this will be more restoration or a little more updated mechanically in a few areas, I wanted to see if I could get it turned over just for the challenge if nothing else because that's just what we do when first starting a project, looks surprisingly good in there so far. Seems like every CRL is restored to OEM standards, mine will be different | ||

Regular Posts: 61 ![]() ![]() Location: Okielahoma | No need to worry Ron, I have the carb and intake, anything I did would reversible, the outside will remain stock, I want to drive this everyday, it won't be a garage queen so I'd like to add things like an alternator and electronic ignition, disc brakes, maybe even fuel injection, again, keeping the original parts and the next care taker would have no problem getting it back to OEM Yes the trunk and rear quarters are toast along with the front floor pans, both rockers and sections of the rear pans, then some spots on the front fenders that you can see in the photos, from what I've seen from Jan Fridberg's shop photos, pretty typical rust for one of these that was heavily used then left outside, it's actually a little better overall than I first thought, especially sitting outside with the drivers window down, re-creating the trunk and rear will be a major challenge but the rest of it looks like any other rusty FL Mopar, some salvage front fenders will quickly do wonders for the front end, one door is a little pinched on a forward edge but they have about the best gaps and fitment I've seen. The trunk has been open and rusted for so long, it has an old floor patch that's also rusted through and the frame sections underneath that are rusted through as well, It's as nasty as it gets but nothing that other guys haven't dealt with. | ||

Inner and outer rockers... i usually start there as long as the structure is there to support them.... the inner sucks... Get some schott outers... Inners you can make or get some crappy ones from ebay.... looks like they are 130$ shipped for the pair... not bad for something to start with. DO not get classic4u outer rockers.. Schott are the way to go, they fit perfectly. I picked mine up at the actual business. the ends match great and the length was perfect | ||

They are vintage replacement panels, but designed as slip overs, so they are oversize and will throw all panel alignment off. You may be able to work with these for rockers, depending on how your metal working and welding skills are. Current repro panels: all the domestically available repro panels are total junk. Ask anyone that has bought them. If you are serious about putting this car back together, you want to have metal cut from rust free parts cars. It's the only way to go. Ron | ||

I’ll be looking for the best parts car front clip parts I can find pretty soon, front fenders and those two front panels surrounding the headlights, but I have to have my shop built before that, already out of storage space. | ||

Regular Posts: 61 ![]() ![]() Location: Okielahoma | While I'm waiting on construction projects before tearing the car down I'd thought I'd test out some paint schemes with a few rattle cans, jet black and coral with a white top, the krylon coral isn't as muddy as the original 59 color and I like it better for that, a slightly cleaner look with more contrast. It's kind of a 1956 look on a 59 car but I'm really liking it. The mocha/beige/tan stuff is not for me, I'll let this marinate for awhile, might try the reverse scheme on the other side but this has been my 59 Dodge vision for quite a few years. I've gathered all the trim except for good taillight bezels and the wide side trim, does anyone have the big side trim for a two door?? Cal | Looks nice, but personally, I think the reverse colors would look better, and I would eliminate the white on the roof. Reversing the colors would also eliminate the hassle of always having to wipe your car down from the black that shows every little spec of dust on it. Also, your engine bay would end up being black, the way you have it. There ends up being too much black inside a black engine bay and it looks boring. Regular Posts: 61 ![]() ![]() Location: Okielahoma | Powerflite, it’s funny you mention that, I’ve done some picture work and photo editing with the reverse and I thought it was too much coral, I agree about the engine compartment but I love a black or very dark front end around the those headlights so that’s my number one driver at this point, I wanted a tri-tone just to add that extra bit of 50’s excess to an already excessive car plus I like the idea having a one of a kind vehicle. There’s a Coronet over in Japan of all places with the reverse scheme, a fantastic car and tempting to replicate but I really want something unique. I toyed with the idea of using Rose Quartz instead of coral but I feel I’m already very close to skirting the fuzzy dice, continental kit crowd and lowered rear end stuff is not for me, I appreciate everyone’s comments | ||

I think I like the color scheme that Powerflite suggested better, but I can see your point about wanting dark colored paint around the headlights. I have floor pans (interior, trunk & dropdowns) made by Autobody Specialties in Conneticut and a pair of schott outer rockers for a 4 door (that can be cut down for a 2 door) available if your still needing them.
