Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I am lining up the ducks for a new, belt-driven (not generator driven) PS pump (a Ramcharger 4 x 4 style Saginaw pump) and will need to have a new hose made to mate the metric fitting on the pump to the SAE fitting on the Coaxial steering box (see photo below). I am hoping that my NOS parts guy might come through with a new (or used) OE 56 Dodge PS hose but so far no luck. In lieu of that, any ideas what the fitting is at the coaxial box (probably a double flared tube but I don't know what the thread is going to be on the tubing nut). The tubing nut seems to be 11/16" (ish). An 11/16" open end wrench fits over the nut but seems a bit loose. A 5/8" wrench will NOT fit on. The tubing seems to be about 1/4" (17/64") O.D. if that helps. Any ideas (confirmation?) ?? (I don't want to break this hose loose or cannabalize it - yet ) Edited by 56D500boy 2022-03-21 9:33 PM (56DodgeCoaxialPSBoxInProcessOfBeingCleanedSlowlySlowly.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56DodgeCoaxialPSBoxInProcessOfBeingCleanedSlowlySlowly.jpg (132KB - 135 downloads)

I am away from home until Saturday so I can't check my '56 Fury power box for you until then. Chrysler used similar connections on their later '60's radiator cooler lines.

Just tried a flare nut wrench on the fitting on the coaxial steering box. 11/16" goes on, but seems too loose (i.e. it will round off the points on the nut). In contrast, I can't get the 5/8" end of the flare nut wrench on the fitting. I will try again tomorrow. Has to be 5/8". (???) Edited by 56D500boy 2022-03-21 11:30 PM

Same answer: 11/16 flare is loose and 5/8 seems impossible. I might try a crows foot (??) Nathan found out that he didn't have the hose that he thought he had. (Thanks for trying Nathan). Anybody? Sven?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | My '57-'58 cars use a 5/8" wrench on the nut. I'm not sure what is causing it not to fit, but it may be that it is deformed a little. You could try a 16mm, which is a little bigger to see if that works. But it should take a 5/8" if it were in good shape.
