Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | The owner of this car believes it may have been a police car What does this tag decode out to? The 999 in the paint part makes me think that it was a special order The body number is hard to read the second number (matadore.jpg) (matadore2.jpg) Attachments ---------------- matadore.jpg (64KB - 145 downloads) matadore2.jpg (36KB - 150 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 427 Location: Ohio | Here's the link to the car listed on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/334335605866?hash=item4dd7f47c6a:g:Y4kAAOSw... This car came up for sale last fall. Here's another link with more pictures including better shot of the fender tag. https://www.allpar.com/threads/1960-dodge-matador-possibly-ex-chp-or... A standard Matador 4-door sedan is body code "643". The body code on the fender tag looks to be "693". Which is interesting since its the same as the standard Matador except for the 2nd digit. Not certain what code would designate a police package. The "999" paint code is definitely special order. However, there is no way to determine the actual color. This hold true for all Mopars with paint code "999" Edited by Space Trukin Wagon 2022-02-22 11:39 AM

Must have be a precursor to AirLift Wing. But good guess. I didn't see that the first time. https://maps.roadtrippers.com/us/ca/services/van-nuys-air-national-g... Expert Posts: 1892 | . Dave and Robert: Thanks a lot for the opened pictures!!! Looks like the upholstery color is mostly TAN than MAUVE… The mauve should be pinky-purpled, if I understood correctly. Although if we take a closer look on the picture of opened right rear door, the cloth appears pink, and a vinyl insert on the door card is a purple, just they slightly faded. I posted the picture of upholstery colors, the trim no. 262 stated by Dodge as TAN, though it really BROWN. The mauve upholstery probably showed in the lower row, second from the left… (1.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1.jpg (205KB - 143 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9904 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I think that if we were to find out the history of this car we would find that it was a Military Police (MP) car, not a civilian/municipal police car. I am basing that guess on a) the paint colour (some kind of military beige/desert sand) and b) the interior. See if you can find examples of 1960 Dodge taxi cab interiors. I would bet that this is what this beige car has, a taxi cab interior. Maybe Edited by 56D500boy 2022-02-22 5:03 PM

Regular Posts: 93 | CHP ordered so many cars from Chrysler that Mother Mopar would do anything they wanted on their cars. So there are many unique items that are only on CHP cars. The car has been messed with over the years but I see enough CHP items on the car I believe its a real CHP car.

That doesn't explain the faded Van Nuys Air National Guard sticker. Are you saying that the only "9" VIN cars in California are CHP cars? Edited by 56D500boy 2022-02-24 8:57 PM

Regular Posts: 93 | The inside rearview mirror on the roof is the giveaway. CHP ordered so many cars from Chrysler that Mother Mopar would do anything they wanted on their cars. So there are many unique items that are only on CHP cars. The car has been messed with over the years but the rearview mirror on the roof is a CHP only item so it has to be a CHP car.
