Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10177 Location: Lower Mainland BC | wheelcover - 2020-08-23 10:45 PM I’ve recently purchased a 1957 Coronet 2 door hardtop (Detroit built, VIN starts 3522...) and am hoping that I could get some help deciding the few option listed on the data tag. 292 324 485 Trim code 112 (which I see information about above and am trying to get cloth samples for) Paint 3LSS (which I believe is Heather Green on main body and Glacier White on roof/fin) Any help is appreciated. LD3 Greg - 2020-08-24 8:57 PM Post an image of the body plate and I will do it. Greg wheelcover - 2020-08-24 11:43 PM Here you go, if I can get it to post my pic. Almost. This forum does not work with iPhone .jpeg files. Has to be a jpg Here is your tag, rotated and enlarged (do your thing Greg): Edited by 56D500boy 2020-08-25 10:26 AM (57CoronetBodyTag.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 57CoronetBodyTag.jpg (101KB - 286 downloads)

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10177 Location: Lower Mainland BC | LD3 Greg - 2020-08-25 8:41 AM Pic is fine. It is coded as follows: Coronet, V8, 2dr HT. schedule build date Mar. 5, two tone paint roof and fins glacier white, saddle and lower heather green. Transmission Powerflite ( sales code 322), heater defroster ( sales code 374 ), delivered by truck ( sales code 675 ). The trim code you know. The body plate only shows complete accessory groups, none here, but only the punch card will show all its individual options. By the condition of the body plate it looks like a nicely preserved car. Post some pics and maybe send for the punch card copy? Greg (I copied your answer over to here in the VIN section Greg. Hope that was okay )

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10177 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . In response to LD3_Greg's interpretation of the cowl data tag, wheelcover said: wheelcover - 2020-09-02 11:56 PM Thank you for the information, but I don’t see where you are getting the codes you listed - it does have the Powerflite. I thought I understood something about this style data tag, but now I’m confused. To which Greg replied: LD3 Greg - 2020-09-03 8:24 PM Sales codes do not show on 57 Dodge body plates but do on the broadcast sheet (if available) and the punch card. Greg To which I will say to wheelcover, "Yes, it is difficult to see how the cowl data tags are interpreted but LD3_Greg has a lot of knowledge and experience about the 57 and 58 Dodge plates so we have to trust him on these" I have learned a few things and the easiest one is that the transmission codes on the Broadcast sheet were on the 32_ column where for 57 Dodges (for example) 322 = Powerflite and 323 = Torqueflite. In their "Wisdom", Dodge stamped the 29 column on the data plate with this info as in 292 = Powerflite and 293 = Torqueflite. Here is a 57 Dodge Custom Royal's broadcast sheet and the corresponding cowl data tag so you can start to see how some of the data transfers. For your car, it is best to have either the broadcast sheet (often found in the car somewhere) or the IBM card image available from FCA Historical (in non-Covid 19 conditions). Veteran Posts: 136 Location: Wyoming | Thanks for the clarification and the information. I’ll look in the car for a broadcast sheet and will contact FCA for the IBM card this (and for my other FL cars) as you suggest. I’ll see what I can do to post a picture of my car from a non-phone jpeg - didn’t know there was a difference.
