I am old enough that I remember when "gay" was happy and carefree, not what we know it as now. I just liked the fact that things were simpler then and would be misinterpreted today.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | My aunt, born in 1953, is named Gay. I think it's a wonderful name actually. She has obviously spent a lifetime making light of people's reaction. She has a shirt that reads, "Hi, I'm Gay" on the front and, "That's my name, stupid" on the back. The '55 CRL hardtops are among my favorite FL cars. The trim and colors just look great. Thanks for sharing.

Veteran Posts: 144 Location: Simi Valley, CA | Yes! I was very happy(Gay) in 1966 when I my dad gave me my first 55 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer he bought for $99.00. We brought it home from a cheapy car lot in Van Nuys ,Ca. After about a week we found out it had a cracked block. So Dad and I went to the junkyard and looked through the pile of old engines and found a 58 Plymouth 318 for a $100 dollars. We then took it to Earl Shiebs auto paint shop and for $29.95 I had painted "Fire engine Red". I then put some old "glasspacks" from the pile of old mufflers at the junkyard that matched(color). I wanted to look "Hot" so I bought a set of Chrome Reversed wheels for $40.00 from "PepBoys Auto Parts". Every friday I would have the car loaded with my friend s and go to the my high school football games. So later on when I decided to buy my second vintage car and after looking a many 55 Dodges, my Wife said you are going to keep looking, so just buy one and get it over with. So I did! Its the one I have now and after almost 30 years of ownership and after 43 years of marriage, I'm very happy(Gay)! So when I "come out" and take it for a drive I'm very Happy(Gay)!!!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7453 Location: northern germany | C'mon, I'm German and even I knew that. Different meaning back then. Lots of old songs using the word "gay" and there was a car named Gaylord, IIRC, but I'm certainly NOT googling it! Edited by 1960fury 2020-04-11 4:32 PM
