Expert Posts: 1898 | . 1961 Chrysler 300G 2door Hardtop at EBAY https://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-Chrysler-300G-Code-888-interior/164040... The seller told about «special order 'Code 888' black interior, one of an estimated 20 built as equipped» Anybody know: Is that true? Did Chrysler build letter cars with black interior? The body tag shows TRIM 833 – standard tan leather 300G interior… (1.JPG) (2.JPG) (3.JPG) (4.JPG) (5.JPG) (6.JPG) (7.JPG) Attachments ---------------- 1.JPG (151KB - 122 downloads) 2.JPG (149KB - 115 downloads) 3.JPG (98KB - 149 downloads) 4.JPG (56KB - 110 downloads) 5.JPG (69KB - 131 downloads) 6.JPG (105KB - 110 downloads) 7.JPG (77KB - 104 downloads)

Location: Under the X in Texas | There were a total of sixty one 300Gs built with Code 888 special order (color) interiors according to the Chrysler 300 Club Int'l. Among them would have been black, charcoal, red, white leathers. I'm not aware of other colors but expect the buyer could have specified. Other 888 300Gs show up from time to time. There were fewer 888s in previous years. THIS car, as stated, as shown, has the 833 code for the standard beige 300G leather interior. Therefore it was "born with" a standard beige interior. The "documentation" is right in front of us that the seller in not truthful.

Veteran Posts: 206 Location: California | I had a 300G about 10 years ago with a black interior from the factory. It had the special code on the trim tag.

Elite Veteran Posts: 628 Location: Lubbock, TX | I don't think it's a blatant lie since the pics in the listing show the 833 Punch Card as posted in this thread. It's possible that the consigning client claimed it and they never saw any proof otherwise and just trusted some teenager to post the pics up. Obviously a quick call to them would resolve this issue and they would probably alter the listing appropriately. ~Peter

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | On 1960 300Fs with special order seats they didn't get the embossing. Is that true for 1961 as well? Someone went to a lot of trouble to change this car over if they did.

Elite Veteran Posts: 628 Location: Lubbock, TX | Car sold for $41,800 at BJ Las Vegas 2017: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1961-CHRYSLER-3... Listing there mentions Gary Goers interior, so in answer to Nick's question, I guess the owner could've had Gary do them however he wanted? ~Peter

Veteran Posts: 256 Location: Chicago | Yes, the 888 interior 300Gs did not have embossed leather on the seats. I had a 888 G and have seen a few more. Gil Cunningham did a detailed article on special interior cars for the Chrysler 300 Club International years ago and corroborated this.

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | It would be too expensive to change this car back and since it's done well I don't hate it. The problem is them promoting it as a special order. I don't think it really affects the price either way.

Veteran Posts: 256 Location: Chicago | If we're going to get picky, why cover the brushed metal inserts on the door panels? Those are available. The best thing about the black interior is how it looks with the chrome and aluminum trim.

The best thing about the black interior is how it looks with the chrome and aluminum trim. Maybe they weren't available when the car was done. You're right about the looks without them. But it could have been a lot worse... (300g_puffy.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 300g_puffy.jpg (130KB - 111 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Or they could have done it like my '60 wagon where it has silver vinyl inserts mimicking the aluminum. With more on the bottom that they call an "aluminized kick panel". (front_right_door.jpg) Attachments ---------------- front_right_door.jpg (113KB - 111 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1898 | . Another example for this thread… White leather and Red dash panel, although TRM 833 on the tag says about standard tan interior Originally it would be an Alaskan White (PNT WW1), not a Mardi Gras Red color… (1.jpg) (2.jpg) (3.jpg) (4.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1.jpg (35KB - 110 downloads) 2.jpg (54KB - 91 downloads) 3.jpg (55KB - 90 downloads) 4.jpg (44KB - 86 downloads)

The steering wheel is done wrong and the dash and door panels are wrong. Looks like the same person did this one as did the red puffy interior.
