Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Nice car. Seems to be in fantastic shape but it is at least partially BS. I am pretty sure that the third seat wagons needed to be four doors in order to access the 3rd seat from a door and not only the hatch. The 2drs were 6 seater Suburbans. The 9 passengers with the 3rd seat were either Sierras or Custom Sierras. And if you have a 3rd seat, you need a new place for the spare tire - which was in the right rear quarter panel. This car doesn't have that. They've added the 3rd seat and eliminated the possibility of have a spare tire on board. Still, a nice car. Where the spare should be for a real Spectator:

The paint code 1XXX is nothing like what the current paint is. XXX =Eggshell for example.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Personally, I think that of all the body styles, the wagon is best served in 4drs. I've owned and used many old wagons over the years while my kids were growing up, and there is no good reason I can think of not to have 4 doors on it. And they still look just as good as the 2dr versions and are more useful for loading and unloading cargo or people. Two door wagons are like pickups with tonneau covers on them. They may make it look better to some people, but make the truck a pain to use it as it was intended.

Veteran Posts: 139 | I doubt it is a factory AC car, they used dual pulleys and drive belts and this car is running only one belt. The generator does not look correct for an AC car, nor does it have the condenser mounted to the shell that all cars factory equipped with a radio have.

A/C was 303 (info found after digging a bit in the archives of the forum). I found this previous thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=67835

Expert Posts: 1876 | Imp58Alpes probably told about optional code 305 on the cowl tag of this car, not about Heater MODEL 705 or Air Conditioning MODEL 900… 301 on the cowl tag means code 341 = Heater and Air Conditioning 302 on the cowl tag means code 342 = Heater and Air Conditioning – Dual Unit 303 on the cowl tag means code 343 = Heater and Air Conditioning, that including in one of accessory groups 304 on the cowl tag means code 344 = Heater and Air Conditioning – Dual Unit, that including in one of accessory groups 305 on the cowl tag means code 345 = Heater only (present on this car)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 6487 Location: Newark, Texas (Fort Worth) | Text from ad: This 1958 Dodge Suburban Spectator is a two-door wagon powered by a 350ci V8 mated to an automatic transmission. Finished in two-tone metallic pink and black, the car reportedly underwent a refurbishment before being acquired by the Malamut Auto Museum on BaT in September 2016. Maintenance has since included installing a new head gasket, radiator, and a rebuilt power-steering pump, servicing the brakes and cylinder heads, and repairing the power-steering box, air conditioning, and factory gauges. This Spectator is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name. The body is finished in two-tone metallic pink and black, and detailed photos of the paint, lenses, and brightwork are provided in the gallery below. Equipment includes a chrome roof rack, side moldings, and fender-mounted mirrors, as well as a fold-down rear tailgate with a power-retractable window. The seller describes minor areas of corrosion on the side and rear pillars as pictured in the gallery. 14” wheels wear polished covers with ornamental gold-painted knock-off spinners and BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. The power-assisted brakes were reportedly serviced and the parking brake repaired by the seller. The interior is trimmed in two-tone pink and black vinyl and has a matching dashboard and black carpeting. The front bucket seats swivel for access to the rear bench, and a fold-away rear-facing third-row seat is equipped; both of these features reportedly were added during the refurbishment but were not factory equipped on this car. A factory radio is retained in the dashboard, and additional features include power windows and air conditioning. The automatic transmission is shifted via buttons located on the left side of the dash. Just under 98k miles are indicated on the five-digit odometer, with true mileage unknown. The 350ci Ram-Fire V8 was factory rated at 295 horsepower and features a four-barrel carburetor. The cylinder heads were serviced and a replacement head gasket and radiator were installed in April 2019 at RST Automotive in Ventura, California, as detailed on an invoice presented in the gallery. A new transmission-cooler line was also installed by the seller along with a rebuilt power-steering pump and a fresh battery. The prior seller mentioned rust repair in the rocker panels, and additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery. In-car driving footage is viewable below. It does not apply to Chrysler or Imperial at all but could well apply to Desoto as you state. I am referring to 58 Detroit production. In addition it is important to note that things changed during any production year and you and I may be referencing literature with different dates. My date of reference to card column 34 is Sept 26, 1957. I would be interested to know your date of reference. Greg

Location: The Mile High City | I wish all ads included so many great images. They really give a good representation of the overall condition of the car. This was the companion piece to the CRL convertible in the same color scheme. I was a bit suprised by the pitted pot metal. That did not match the condition of the rest of the vehicle.

Expert Posts: 1876 | . Hello LD3 Greg. I know just four «1958 Air Conditioning / Heater» codes: 341 = Heater and A/C 342 = Heater and Dual A/C 345 = Heater 347 = Instant Gasoline Heater Imp58Alpes told about code 303 (343) as it is A/C code. If codes 341 and 342 already uses and means A/C, I have assumed that code 343 is single air conditioning included in accessory group (it maybe basic or convenience group, just heater should be in it among other items). This information was taken from 1960 or 1961 Chrysler optional codes list and dated September 1959. Unfortunately, I cannot find original source, but can confirm it by 1961 Chrysler cowl tags only. We know that number 5 below N means Heater. (1958 models had code 345 and 1961 models had code 315) – see picture 1 below Second picture (sorry bad view) says that this car has equipped with Heater and Air Conditioning: 1 below N (N1 = code 311) Next, third picture shows 6 below J and blank below N. J6 = code 306, Accessory Group which includes Accessory Package A, Heater, Power Antenna, Rear Window Defogger and Radio Golden Touch Tuner with Rear Seat Speaker. So heater is present, but column N is blank and picture of engine bay confirms it… On the last, fourth picture we can see J6 option also, and number 3 below N, i.e. code 313 and not a code 311 which means Air Conditioning. This car has equipped with A/C – see next picture of engine bay, but has number 3 instead 1 (see picture 2 again), which should be. That’s what I mean, when I said about 1958 code 303… If I’ll find the reference – I’ll post it sure… (Picture 1 - 5 below N.jpg) (Picture 2 - 1 below N.jpg) (Picture 3 - 6 below J.JPG) (Picture 3 - 6 below J - Engine Bay.JPG) (Picture 4 - 6 below J and 3 below N.JPG) (Picture 4 - 6 below J and 3 below N - Engine Bay.JPG) Attachments ---------------- Picture 1 - 5 below N.jpg (46KB - 102 downloads) Picture 2 - 1 below N.jpg (47KB - 93 downloads) Picture 3 - 6 below J.JPG (122KB - 120 downloads) Picture 3 - 6 below J - Engine Bay.JPG (191KB - 107 downloads) Picture 4 - 6 below J and 3 below N.JPG (100KB - 88 downloads) Picture 4 - 6 below J and 3 below N - Engine Bay.JPG (105KB - 90 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Yes. "Sales Codes" 303 is power seat and 343 is A/c and heater but 343 is only for Dodge not Chrysler and I would assume only for Detroit built cars. I say that because I know nothing about cars built in other plants. I don't recall ever seeing a punch card like the one you posted. Where was that car built? It is significantly different from Detroit ones. I decode 362 body/model as Custom Royal 2 Dr. HT. What on earth is paint code 8XXX? X of course is eggshell. Greg
