Veteran Posts: 166 | Hard to find Auto pilot cruise control set up for 1958-59 full size Chrysler. Chrome control knob is in excellent pit free condition with nice gold anodizing still present on the engage knob. Historic option as first year for cruise control on any car. Great fun, full throttle and transmission kick down with the turn of a dial! For those of you that didn't know; The inventor Ralph Teetor was actually blind. Read more about it here; https://www.smithsonianmag.com/innovation/sightless-visionary-who-in...

Veteran Posts: 166 | Redundancy because the only way to turn it off on the first generation auto pilot was to step on the brake to cut the power to the engage circuit. If one switch failed or was out of adjustment the other would still cut power to the engage circuit. Later units would have you pull the knob out to engage and push the knob in to disengage. On the first generation you push the knob in to engage but you can not pull it back out to turn it off so brake pedal or ignition switch are the only shut offs for the system.

For the first generation, I strongly recommend to use the double switch circuit (somewhat overkill on the later AutoPilots). Mind that the hydraulic switch must be of a "Normal Open" type (rare) that cuts the circuit when the hydraulic pressure rises in the brake lines.
