Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | Restore, no you couldn't. Equivalent, I bet you could. There was a '57 about as good and all original a yr or 2 ago for under 12k. Put it on eBay and see what happens I say. Been watching 57/8 DeSotos for 50+ years. My $.02 YYMV. Edited by firedome 2019-02-03 2:47 PM

There was a '57 about as good and all original a yr or 2 ago for under 12k. Put it on eBay and see what happens I say. Been watching 57/8 DeSotos for 50+ years. My $.02 YYMV. That was then this is now. It boils down to price, availability, and how bad someone wants something and how much they are willing to pay. I kinda compare this car to my ‘59 Firesweep 4 door sedan I bought a few years ago with 21K miles, all factory original with one repaint in the factory colors, the factory trunk mat, all books, etc. - just as it came from the factory. This car was not my first choice by any means but for its value it offered me, I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve never been sorry - it has been the “Star” of cruise-ins, featured in a national magazine, invited to drive in parades, you name it. Heck it even beat out a trailered ‘58 Dodge D-500 2HT for first place at an all Mopar show in Columbia, MO a couple of years ago and I drove it 200 miles there and 200 miles back that same day (some in the rain). Yeah I paid in the upper $20s but well worth it. My dream car would be perhaps twice the price and I wouldn’t get any more enjoyment/satisfaction.

Expert Posts: 3887 Location: Northen Virginia | I remember a restorer buying cheaper unmolested sedans just to see the factory details. I also purchase an original sedan when 2 dr when priced to the roof, including those 300 rusted buckets...I'm not regretting it for a second and pretty much every place a go it is attracting a crowd.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | It was less than 2 yrs ago, that isn't that long ago, and imo a better car and color. 4 door post sedans are still unfortunately the stepchild of the car hobby. As far as: how bad someone wants something, we'll see if anyone steps up, I'd bet in person it's not as good as the pics, and there's always those willing to overpay, but you don't value a car by 1 sale. Expert Posts: 2003 Location: Branson, MO | Dodge is not factory original (it has been restored) nor is the interior even close to factory materials and pattern. Big difference in my opinion if one is focusing on originality. That's where the $$$$$ difference plays a huge part regarding values. Still a great looking automobile though.
