Member Posts: 20 | Hello to all my name is jim and I recently bought a 55 savoy. I have got the car running now and am going to remove the gas tank for cleaning and check for leaks. But I am wondering if there is anyone that sells tank straps for this car. Can not get pictures to load tried making them smaller. Got it to work just ask the kids. Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | Jim, Great car and thanks for joining the forum. Any chance your car has overdrive? Give us some more details. If your strap ends are intact, your best bet is to salvage them and make your own straps (or have them made). Each strap end should be riveted onto the strap. Drill the rivets, clean & paint the ends, and measure the width, length and thickness of your straps. Then make new straps that are flat, drilling the ends to accept the original hook and stud ends and then bolt the ends on (or rivet if you must have the original look). Then just bend the straps to the contour of the tank when you reinstall, it's really not that bad to do. | ||

Member Posts: 20 | The straps are not broken yet I was just looking ahead if they do break when I try to remove them. They have been soaking for about a week now just gonna have to see what happens. My car does not have the overdrive on it. It is the inline 6 3 spd on the tree 6 volt system pretty solid car over all as far as rust goes. Needs some minor things gone over before its road ready. I started a thread on how I solved that issue on my 56 Dodge. Member Posts: 20 | Good news the tank straps did not break. So I will drop the tank off tomorrow. I also got the brake's bled today. Car already had new master cylinder all new rubber lines new wheel cylinders and new shoes and rear drums. All the hard lines are new also. | ||
