Looks like I'm likely to need a fuel sender for my 60 Fireflite.
So far I've found only Classic Car Auto Parts. Their listing shows a sender (S-61IMP) for various 60-64 vehicles, but does not list the Desoto. Will the sender for a 60 Chrysler fit/work? Are all of the tanks the same size - or at least similar enough in shape that the senders are the same? A tank that is larger volume due to being longer but the same height would use the same sender.
And what kind of reputation do CCAP senders have?
Since I'm asking, does the fuel tank have to come out, or is the sender accessible with the tank in the car? (I have a manual, but haven't looked yet, and to be honest haven't been under the car yet either).

Location: Alvin, Texas | On the cars I have 57- 58 Dodge and Plymouth you need to remove the gas tank to remove the fuel sender.
Be careful gas tank might be heavy due to how much gas you might have in it.
1. Remove bolts on gas tank straps being careful not drop the gas tank on your self(face) and damaging gas tank on floor.
2. When gas tank is removed now would be a good time detail it.
3. Remove sending unit ring with a flat head screw driver being careful not to damage ring and gas tank.
4. Replace sending unit with new seal or gasket.
5. Reinstall gas tank. |

Location: Perth Australia | Correct tool for sender unit (although I needed to widen the teeth on a couple as 1 tooth on the ring is bigger)

Same seller has tanks and senders as well which I used in the rebuild of the 60 phoenix I did.
The tank I used was for a 60 Plymouth and the difference was the filler neck was a bit shorter than the dodge one, but I never had a problem getting fuel into it
