| Shame that you can't find OEM quality ignition parts for our cars anymore (that I'm aware of at least). I'm working on my 56 savoy and it has what's clearly an aftermarket ignition cylinder (plug) and it keeps coming out of the ignition housing. I'm not the one that originally installed the plug (although I've re-installed it about 20 times while cussing at it), so I didn't know if there was a missed step in installation. Am I missing something and was it installed wrong, or is this just one of those Chinese crap things that I need to live with? Embarrassing as it is, I was an automotive locksmith for years, but I never encountered one of these ignitions in my professional career. Anymore, auto locksmithing is 75% electronics, 25% metal parts and very few vintage jobs.

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | HI Vince, I'm also a locksmith, 44 years now! Normally on these lock cylinders, there is a small pin retainer near the front that must be depressed to release it from the switch assembly, (after the key has been turned to the run position), before it will slip out. Not sure why yours falls out on its own. I have some spares at home, can take a picture if needed, later. I run my own business and still do vintage auto lock servicing occasionally. https://www.acmesafe.ca/services/vintage_auto_finished_projects.html |

| Thanks for the reply. I saw so few of these ignitions, so I was afraid the single flawed Chinese product was all I had to work with. Man I missed locksmithing. Perhaps the most enjoyable occupation I've had. |
