Should the 2bbl air cleaner in my '57 dodge have a hole right in the center of where it mounts above the carb? I will try to post a photo, it doesn't look right to me. See no purpose for it as is held to the carb with band clamp and doesn't screw on.

No sir, there should not be a hole in the air cleaner above the carb. Band clamp is what holds it tight to the carb
