Location: Mountain City, Tennessee | I am in the process of having a 1959 Desoto Firesweep 361 engine being rebuilt. What were the original colors of the engine that I can duplicate. |

Dear Dr. Hamman, The engine currently has traces of silver on the block and blue on the valve covers. I questioned this because the club guys here in Florida say everything should be gold color. I'm redoing the whole car and now with the disagreements in engine color I'm wondering if you could sight some source information that I can go to the club members with? Thanks, Jeff
DR. Hamman :
Jeff, the silver on the block should be the correct color for the whole engine. All the engines except the Desoto "Adventurer" engines were painted aluminum Silver, I believe you can still get the paint at Chrysler dealers. Mopar part number P4529148. The DeSoto "Adventurer" engines were painted Gold Metallic Mopar part number P4529149. If you have any more questions I am here to help. Good luck, and Thanks for using Just Answer |
