Does anyone know when Dodge trucks stopped using the Chrysler Hemi? Was 1958 the last year, or later? used through '59, a few 1960 trucks have been found with them |

Location: Seville, OH | I ask because I have set of four bolt flange manifolds with a casting date of 1963. Thought that was late to be producing spares, but given the abuse trucks see, maybe not. I can see a lot of dangling exhaust systems catching on curbs and such.

Location: Hayward, Calif | Hey Guys, I checked out my old ' Motor Truck Repair Manual '. Unfortunately it only goes back to 1962. It shows a 6-225 & a 6-251, (this is the 1st I heard of that eng.) Then shows, V8-318,361,413. This book covers 1962 - 68. But it does show a head tightening sequence for a double rocker arm eng. and that is the only mention of it. If someone has an older Truck Repair Manual it would be interesting to see what it has to say. Jerry |

The 251 ( 25 inch long Head ) Flat Head Engine was 241 cubes in 1940 Chrysler's. After WWII it was stroked to become 251 cubes in Chrysler's and the last stroke made it 265 cubes.
Every version uses the same piston's and Piston Ring's. As 251 cubes it was used in De Soto's - Dodge Truck's and Farm Implements. The Canadian Dodges also used the 251's in the 50's.
The last that I know of its usage was The Dodge Truck WM300's.
Was it the 354's and 331's that were used by Dodge Truck's and other Industrial Reason's ?

Location: Seville, OH | The 331's and 354 Hemi's were used in some Dodge trucks. The truck exhaust manifolds with 4-bolt flanges were also used on the 1957 Dodge D-501 354 Hemi. And I understand that a similar manifold with a notch for t-bar clearance was used on the 300C. The manifolds I just acquired in a parts deal have the same casting number as my original D-501 manifolds but have what I thought was a late casting date for a truck Hemi as I assumed they stopped the truck Hemi when the passenger engines stopped. But if they did continue truck engines for a year or two, a 63 casting date is plausible. And I suppose there could have been industrial applications as well. |
