Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | The Solex glass, rear antennae, PB's, PS, AC, and the original headliner are all noteworthy. (I had to pay for stuff like that to be added to my car.) The interior Code is 516, and SMS should have it, at least they did for my car a couple of months ago. Likely could use a rebuild of the engine, PB's, PS, and pumps and such...but hey, you guys are handy! Real nifty-fifties colour too! Edited by FIN ME 2014-01-17 9:11 AM

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | Sold for $14,000 - IMHO, good price for a well-equipped car that will likely require some degree of heavy lifting to look and function well. Congratulations to the new owner, whomever they may be.

Veteran Posts: 279 Location: Klein, TX | Hello all. I am the culprit that bought the '57 Firesweep shown on this thread. One of the members of this group sent me info on the group and I have been checking it out. Seems like a great place for info and help. I had a '57 Desoto Firesweep Sportsman while in high school in the early 60's. I was glad to find this one and hopefully will have back in great condition soon. I look forward to reading more of the threads and I'm sure will get a wealth of info from them. Regards, Bill, Spring, TX

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | To avoid I-45, I used to take I-35 south to Hwy 6, then east on 290 when I travelled to Sugar Land for work. It took me right by there. Small world. Congrats Bill on your new Firesweep. Danny aka Gotgas

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | Welcome and congratulations, baker53! Great acquisition! There are several 'Sweepthusiasts here at this site who can maybe help you if you need any help. But being a previous owner of an original Firesweep, back in the day, maybe you could answer a few questions for us! As usual, "57desoto" aka Ed Petrus (above) is being humble; he's the 1957 Technical Advisor for the National DeSoto Club. He's been such a great help to me during the several years that I've had my DeSoto. BTW - SMS had some real vintage "fabric" (the black, gray and white "Nugget Tweed" stuff) for your seats (Code 516) if you're looking to repair your great, original interior. They likely still have some laying around their shop, even after I bought some of it for my car last year. Edited by FIN ME 2014-01-29 10:30 AM

Expert Posts: 1493 Location: Jamaica Plain, MA | Hey Bill, I think Rosy FINME, myself and of course the 57 DeSoto guru Ed Petrus are perhaps the most outspoken 57 Firesweep 2 door Sportsman fans currently yapping on the board. Rosy and I have almost identical cars, although hers is going in for refinements to its stock (ish) resto, and mine is a mild custom-rod. Anything we can do to help you out-- between us, we've had everything apart and back together and apart again on the Dodge-based SWB Sweeps.

Expert Posts: 1493 Location: Jamaica Plain, MA | 2 things off the bat, that headliner looks awesome. I made the mistake of trying to de-warp mine, and it subsequently fell apart. I wouldn't touch it if I were you. And Rosy and I are jealous yours is a PS/PB car. It took me a whole season to convert mine to having those options.

Veteran Posts: 279 Location: Klein, TX | Thanks for the great info. I will be looking for guidance and I'm sure some parts. I will check with SMS on the seat material. The first task will be removal and replacement of the front floor pans. I ordered them and hopefully the will be here next week. I would like to find a clock, but the one I found on e-bay was big $ to me. Thanks again for the comments on the Firesweep.

Veteran Posts: 279 Location: Klein, TX | Re: supplier for floor pans. Yes, that was the company. After I paid for them, I looked at Rock Auto and found the same ones for less money. I should done more research. Live and learn. Seems to go well with my other mantra Buy high and sell low.....

Expert Posts: 1492 Location: New Castle PA | Hmmm. I'm confused by the paradoxes in these statements: Clock is untested, but should work fine. Great piece for rebuild-- chrome bezel should buff nicely or make a great restoration core.

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | Let me/us know how those floorpans look. I have never seen their product for a 57 Desoto....but I bought some similar pieces for a 66 Fury and they were so 'wrong' in dimension and appearance I had to send them back.
