Here's the thread of the car when it was for sale: http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=40551&star... Happy Motoring! Thanks guys. But this car will sit for awhile, unless I win the lottery. I really didn't get a good look at it the day it was delivered because I had to get to work. It's stored in PA, about an hour from me. Like I said, I had to buy it because it's the ultimate Dodge to me. If it had been anything else, I wouldn't have bought it. It is a beautiful car, well one day long ago it was. A lot of the vert-only parts are pretty good, except for the top frame and fins.

I also sent Matt a copy of the car's Registration Form that I initially filled out on it. The original engine should be in the car and, altho heavily optioned, is not a D500 model and does not have power windows, but does have a power seat and dual antennae. If it had been anything else, I wouldn't have bought it. And that is the only thing you need to say. Just like that, it's justified. Looking forward to seeing the re-birth of this black beauty. congrats on the score! Edited by BarnFind57 2012-05-24 7:00 AM

Expert Posts: 1493 Location: Jamaica Plain, MA | I'll doubtless annoy some people here... but it's oddly beautiful the way it is. I think it would look fantastic hanging from the ceiling in a big warehouse, with fancy lighting. Yeah, I just called it modern art.

Veteran Posts: 114 Location: South Australia | Did the previous owner mention the head on/t-bone/rear-end/roll over/train wreck/tornado looking mis-hap that it may have been in?....or near!! You are a brave man no-doubt,but like others on the forum you can see past all the rough stuff to a beautiful Dodge rag top. When finnished you'll be in the same leauge with John and Rafaelle..... But for now you should kick the front r/hand fender in to match the rest!it's far to straight LOL! Best of luck mate, can't wait to see it under-way.

(I know, Brian; let-it-go....I'm trying; but just had to respond to Jon's cogent observation about the ultimate in "as-is" preservation). Edited by d500neil 2012-05-26 8:01 PM

It looks like a cartoon character, ready to pounce . . . Can't wait to see the car brought back, though! Sparky Edited by sparky7 2012-05-27 11:16 AM

The engine is gone. It would be impossible to find the OEM engine, so I guess it will be a good car to make a Super D-500 out of when the time comes.

When cars like this are done, they are wicked. I remember seeing a 57 CRL vert in all black at Hershey in 2007, it was a beautiful sight. And 58s to my eyes were the year they were perfected. I can only imagine how it will look.

Member Posts: 17 | Hi my name is Simone I am from South Africa. My dad purchased A 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Convertible, left hand drive. It is currently in the process of being restored. We are looking for parts such as: center moldings from the front fender to the rear fender, the dual antennae, and as we progress in the restoration process we will require other parts. I will really appreciate your help. Thank you

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Could you please post photos of your car, we'd love to see them. Is it D-500? What colors, where did you get it? Start a thread on it, there's very few of these left. There's a pair of NOS dual rear antennas on eBay right now.

Member Posts: 17 | I have started a new thread and i have posted pictures. It is a 383 motor we have just completed re building the engine. We don't know much about Dodge because we normally build Cheverolet. The car was custom painted by the previous owner. The car belonged to a man in his area, he always admired it as a young boy. The previous owner had passed on about 18 years ago. The car was kept in a shed as a family memory of the previous owners family. My dad has persuaded them to sell it to him as he has a passion for cars. We purchased the car in January 2013. Other pictures will follow on my thread as we progress.

Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Matt: I take it you saw the most recent Hemmings (September 2012) with the cover story on Custom Royals. I looked at their price guide and thought of your car. Good luck finding a $61,000 1958 Custom Royal convertible, eh? And it was interesting to note that they valued the 1957 and 1958 the same and the 1959 just slightly less! Any more recent pictures or stories?

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Hey Mike. I got that issue, nice car on the cover. Yeah, they shouldn't try to price cars that almost never sell. What do they go by. And I would say 1959s are valued more than 58s. 59s seem to be the official car of Sweden. Not much on the car, last time I saw it in person was last fall. It is a hell of a car though. How is your Coronet Convertible?

Location: The Mile High City | Howdy, Matt: Thanks for the p.m. - my Coronet convertible is languishing in the garage at present. I need to store the Firedome in Grand Lake and bring the D500 back to the garage in Denver. I almost installed the door handles on the convertible, but stopped when I realized the door handle locks were a match for the ignition key in the D500! It is funny how little things trip me up! Once I get the door locks all sorted out, I will install the dashboard into the convertible. That's the next big step. No matter how primo I get my Coronet to be, it will never be a Custom Royal like yours! The current pictures do remind me of Christine after the hoods got her. It will be fun to see how it all comes back to life! I just wish it were as easy as the book.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | I was going to say have you tried standing in front of it and saying "show me", but then I tought you might be dissapointed if it worked and turned into a red 58 plymouth Be nice to have a car that looked that nice though Anyway, back to sanding a fender

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Definitely, things take so much time. All the jewelry on your Coronet looks real nice! You'll have to post some full view shots of it. You'll have a difficult time deciding to drive the Desoto or Coronet. Yeah, I wouldn't want another red 58 Plymouth, unless it was a finished car.

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Yesterday I stopped by, the tires on the Dodge were from the Plymouth and I plan on taking the Plymouth off the jack stands very soon. I have noticed a few things on this car that are odd. One thing is the hood looks to never been punched out for the letters, the car appears to never have back up lights, it has plugs in the holes. Though this car had every accessory group on it so someone paid for them and never got them. The fin emblems are long gone, but there's white paint under where they were that's still showing, why would that be on an all black car that looks to have never been repainted? Neil, the trunk lid actually stays up in the fully open position, so no LDS I guess.
