Location: The Mile High City | I have a few drilling templates to share. The bumper spud template I based on a '57 bumper and extrapolated it to the '58 spacing - and it worked pretty well for me; it is reversible for the opposite side. The fender mirror template was based on the standard mirror holes in my fender - it also worked well for me; it is reversible for the opposite side. The script templates came from a rubbing of a factory spring special fender with the Royal script. The hole pattern is exactly the same for a Coronet but cannot be applied to a Custom Royal script. CAUTION: these worked well for me, but use them at your own risk. You will need to print some of them on 11" x 17" paper. The 1958-holes are considerably closer-spaced than the 1957-holes, and the lower bumpers do not interchange. In 1957, ONLY the Custom Royals and Custom Sierra wagons got the "toothed" lower bumpers. In 1958, the toothed lower bumpers were optionally available on EVERY car model.

Location: The Mile High City | Here is the end result of the bumper spud drilling template. It is not the factory spacing, but I think it turned out pretty well. My guess is that the factory spacing moves the two inboard spuds a bit further inboard. Instead of having 5 1/4" spacing between spud holes, it might increase to 5 1/2"? None of the three mounting holes are the same, between the two years. Edited by d500neil 2012-05-12 8:47 PM (PICT4823.JPG) Attachments ---------------- PICT4823.JPG (112KB - 508 downloads)

Location: The Mile High City | See the attached template for the rear bumper guards. I took a rubbing from a '57 Dodge and it worked really well. The centers of each 1/2 inch hole are 21 inches apart, 2-and-7/8 inches from the edge of the bumper. Attachments ---------------- 58 Dodge rear bumper guards.pdf (25KB - 558 downloads)

Location: The Mile High City | Here is a D-500 emblem drilling template. This is a rubbing directly from a factory D-500 and I think it works very well. I drilled 5/32 inch holes, which is a nice, tight fit. Attachments ---------------- 58 Dodge D-500 Emblem template.pdf (21KB - 597 downloads)

Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Bengt - The factory spud spread is definitely wider, although it looks like I was darn close on the location of each outside spud. I guess that a 5-1/2 inch distance between holes would get a bit closer to factory. Maybe even 5-3/4 inches. If you ever have the bumper apart in the future, perhaps you could make a rubbing and post it. If anyone uses my template, they may want to increase the spread. As Neil notes, there are two types: early and late. You have the early type and I have the late type. The early doors have a narrow lower band and four attachment points. The early fenders have three metal tabs welded to the front face of the fender to which the door is mounted by short stainless screws. The late fenders have two holes in the front face where long plastic tubes are placed, accepting long stainless screws for the late doors. The early doors seem sturdier in how they are attached.

Location: The Mile High City | Both look fine! The big mistake to avoid is the '57 spacing on a '58 - which is more common than you would think. I attached a template for the spring special license plate escutcheon in two parts. This one worked well. I drilled 5/32 inch holes to make the fit nice and tight, but you could go to 3/16 inch holes like the existing holes are for the license plate frame. Location: The Mile High City | Here is the rear deck antenna template that started all of this. I think when these get scanned, the image size may be enlarged or reduced. If you use this template, you should take a stud-to-stud measurement of the antenna base and make sure the printed template holes match. If they do not match up, a lot of copiers have a feature to reduce or enlarge by percentages. Location: The Mile High City | Here are some of the different applications: 1958 Dodge D-500 emblem drilling template also works for the 1958 Dodge Texan emblem. 1958 Dodge spring special coronet and royal script templates also work for the "Sierra" and "Custom" scripts.

Location: The Mile High City | Matt Dorschug sent me an e-mail recently and I realized these are not widely available - here are images of the available colors for 1958 Dodge cars and trucks - including the Spring Special colors. I have never seen a paint chip chart that shows Code S "Copper Metallic" or Code A "Black". Location: The Mile High City | Here is a little gem I found on eBay several years ago. I think the missing swatch was shown in the original eBay advertisement, but somehow it was lost prior to shipping to me. This doesn't look complete either - however, I have never seen another like it. Generally, Custom Royal fabrics are in the top row Royal fabrics are in the second row Standard Coronet fabrics are in the third row Deluxe Coronet fabrics are in the fourth row All except the bottom row are metallics 3573, 3575, 3576, 3577, and 3578 are unusual to me - maybe they are sedan fabrics? Location: The Mile High City | Greg Legatt sent me an e-mail yesterday and it reminded me I created a Word version of the Car Production Broadcast form. The form I had in one of my cars was battered and stained with age, so I created a new form (not entirely identical, but close). I printed it out on a color printer and put the form in a typewriter to create a cleaner duplicate of my original. I used a blue uni-ball pen to recreate the hand written portions as best I could and used a black crayon to recreate the ubiquitous "N" for my 1958. I attached the form and an image of my results. Location: The Mile High City | Thanks, David! The typewriter I used did not have as tall letters as the typewriter Dodge used, but I like the way it came out. I figured if anyone else wants to create another copy of their broadcast sheet - at least some of the work has been done. I did that back in 2002 or so - I am sure modern technology could probably do it better.

Location: The Mile High City | Wow! Pinpointed to the exact car. Amazing, Greg! The only "too late" is never posted; thanks for sharing this. I guess you can see the cost savings right in the illustrations, but gosh - the early door is sure sturdier and easier to deal with in a restoration! Edited by Lancer Mike 2014-11-14 10:35 PM

Location: The Mile High City | Not quite a convertible, Greg - a hardtop coupe. It is lingering in the restoration process, but someday I will finish and probably put it up for sale. I will have to post a picture of the original broadcast sheet for comparison.

Location: The Mile High City | I busted out my old broadcast sheets today to compare the Gammel reproduction with the original. I think I could have done a lot better on forging the handwritten portion. However, I was glad I recreated that form! The original broadcast sheets are brittle and very fragile. I recovered a couple from the top side of the glove box, but one was recovered from between the floor carpeting and the insulation - it is a wreck. Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Has anyone seen a 58 Dodge broadcast sheet that has been revised later than 7-57 ? Greg

Location: The Mile High City | That may be the only version they used for 1958. Who knows? Maybe someone will turn another up... Are there similar broadcast sheets for the other divisions? I don't think I have seen these for Plymouth, De Soto, Chrysler, or Imperial.

Location: The Mile High City | If I was doing that broadcast sheet project over again, I think I would try to find a set of punch dies that more closely matched the original type. (s-l1600.jpg) Attachments ---------------- s-l1600.jpg (150KB - 304 downloads)
