Expert 5K+ Posts: 9672 Location: So. Cal | Are those headers what will fit into your chassis? The two rear pipes look like they would be too close to the steering box. Is your car left or right hand drive? Edited by Powerflite 2014-03-26 10:13 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Hi Nathan, yes they are the headers out of the car and yes it is now RHD (see previous pages in this thread). We did have to extend them for the dyno test to clear the "manual" bellhousing. The car runs a '61 V8 727 torqueflite which we had to swap for a flywheel to attach to the dyno. I will have to scope out a private road to unleash the beast but suffice to say with 500HP up front PRO STOCK comes to mind (particularly the handling without a front sway bar) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-NyTPk2Llg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE_p_qjMiJ8 (show boat.JPG) (boot 2.JPG) (boot 1.JPG) (the end.JPG) Attachments ---------------- show boat.JPG (126KB - 282 downloads) boot 2.JPG (111KB - 272 downloads) boot 1.JPG (109KB - 276 downloads) the end.JPG (147KB - 267 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Thank you all for your congratulatory posts. It was just the best feeling to drive that BIG Red and White ‘Flite into the city to the show. As I cruized down the city streets early Friday morning, you could hear the rumblin’ sound reverberating off the buildings and the reflection of that long and low six metre coupe reflecting off the shop front windows. We had a very basic display as I didn’t want to take any limelight away from our two unique vehicles. The camera phones clicked and the crowd milled around the display while the big flat-screen TV rolled through the build photos, pictorial posters and 1957advertising pages of the model. The TV Program Included, as introduction, the 1957 black and white Groucho Marx “Drive a Desoto before you decide” advertisement and ended with the ‘dyno’ footage of the HEMI building in revs to a screaming 7,500 RPM crescendo! It was a ‘HOT ROD’ show with the usual trophy hunters pandering to the detailed (and sometimes obscure) rules, which categorized the Desoto a square peg in a round hole, but still up against some pretty cool rides!! Nevertheless, it attracted the attention it deserved with many complimentary comments about the display (especially the ‘Desota Boat’). I was so proud to show it off on behalf of all those clever and talented people who took my dream and made it a reality. Thanks Bob Edited by earleebob 2014-05-18 6:53 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | MOPAR Sunday arrived yesterday and with it came beautiful sunshine after a foggy start. We were directed to the designated Show and Shine area, then it was out with the polishing cloth to brush off the dust from the car park. The 3/4hr trip was a classic cruise with the Hemi throbbing under the bonnet but tastefully quiet in the cabin. It was our first outing and the opportunity we had to try out the "Vintage Air" A/C mainly to demist the screen. Then as we arrived it was down with all the windows to give it THAT COOL FORWARD LOOK as we made our entrance. It certainly turned some heads as it was the sole 57 Flite there. The show was well attended with wall to Wall street Mopars and some quick drag cars. There were two other Desoto Flites in attendance also - a '60 and a '61 both in top condition. 'Coupeman' Danny Jarrett was there with his stock '57 Plymouth and the essential Dukes of Hazard Charger - in fact there were a couple - one streeter and the other set up for the 1/4 mile It has taken a while to be able to show off this beautiful car but yesterday made it all worthwhile!!!!!! It's either wheels up or smokem up. And given the weight of that HEMI up front - I would rather light em up!! the things you can do in movies, especially in the Fast & the Furious In the final drag race with the Dodge Charger, you can see the wheelie bar underneath the car, which is used to get the front of the Charger off the ground. If you look closely enough you can also see that the 'burn out' smoke doesn't actually come from the rear wheel tyres at all, but from a generator beside them.
