That's a really true treasure on your fantastic RHD-Flite G'day ToM, there are plenty of clocks still avaible on ebay as they were used on other vehicles including VW. however they are harder to find with the fittings to retain them in the wheel- we made our own! cheers I found on Lee's HP more informations about DeSoto Wheel Clocks http://www.roadkillontheweb.com/desoto_chrysler_benrus.html Edited by ToMopar 2012-11-12 6:40 AM (57benruspage.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 57benruspage.jpg (75KB - 340 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | ON THE MOVE TO WARWICK We have been given the word the upholsterer is ready to go- the raw materials have arrived and the workshop is free. Warwick is about 2 1/2 hours west of Brisbane. Here the Desoto will spend a month being transformed internally to match the exteria! and I'm excited!! Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | FIN ME - 2012-12-02 1:32 AM Very nice work, Bob! Even more beauty to add to your incredible car! :inlove: Good morning to you and thanks for the PM I will check out the shipping costs. Spring is past and it is the 2nd day of summer and the days are already heading for the 100 F. mark. The upholestry is going to be very different, drawing from the Adventurer, 'Flite and Ferrari. It will be colour on colour with the only difference being the inserts and lower trim which will have a small weave pattern like some of the 70s Ford compacts. Now that we've done the embossing it is time to do the cutting, stitching and padding. I am still hanging out for it to be finished by Christmas but no one is promising .... so it is up to Santa!!!!!! Edited by earleebob1 2012-12-01 4:43 PM

Veteran Posts: 241 Location: Southern CA | Hello Bob, you may have already found a solution to your search for the door weatherstripping, but if not I've found one that is going to work great for my car. The problem I was having was that the aftermarket "original" weatherstrip would not allow the door to close fully at the bottom rear because it would not collapse enough and was not flat in the corners like the true original style is. The replacement I chose is Soffseal E145, see photo below for a couple of test run pieces I tried in the door, this stuff is soft and collapses very easily allowing it to contour to a wider range of gaps. I hope this helps on your Bad A$$ Ride. (016-2.JPG) Attachments ---------------- 016-2.JPG (23KB - 339 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Hi Steve, thanks for the info on the door rubbers, the extrusion looks soft enough to work. In the meantime I have purchased some door rubbers from Atlas obsolete which also look VERY promising. I havn't had a chance to try them but they look very similar to the ones in your photo. The desoto is away at present at the trimmers, but as soon as it is back we will give this material a try and post the result. thanks for your interest- all the best for 2013 Edited by earleebob1 2013-01-01 9:14 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Meanwhile down at the boat shed, the desota boata is starting to take shape. The hull has been repaired and the transome strengthened to accept the 100HP Tower of Power Red Band Merc two-stroke outboard. The hull is now ready for painting and fitout. Work has also started on a 50s style boat trailer to cradle this '58 BellBoy Banshee. Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Thanks Rosy, it's getting closer, ever closer. And now the boat is finally painted red and white. It is the rainy season here (to say the least!!) and we have to transport the Flite from Warwick to Brisbane ( 2 hours away) on the back of the tow truck. There are no windscreens in yet and we are concerned about getting the upholstery wet. So everything has to be wrapped in industrial glad wrap!! cheers

Where is the picture of the most important part? The FINS!! Did Rosey make it safely through the trip in the rain? Dont know about Rosy but the Desoto made it up and back between showers ... and that's 4 hrs driving. However, it was well protected in plastic and 100 MPH tape. we did get a bit of rain on the local trip to the suspension shopbut it remained covered and dry. more photos of the Desoto and boat to come... soon

Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | I am pleased to report that work is still progressing on the Red and White Flight. However, as always nothing seems to go fast enough... dont know how those OVERHAULIN guys can do the work in a week!!! We had a setback with the fitting of the suspension by a company I won't name. But somehow they managed to jack the front of the car up by the SUMP!!!! You guessed it now it sports a sizeable dent... with it touching on the oil pickup. I am calm ...now and it has been a costly rectification by the suspension firm. More electrical wiring has been carried out on the front and rear courtesy lights, rear demister fan, radio, audio amp and subwoofer and electric seats. All the speakers front and back have been fitted up as well. Next week the car goes across town to have the transmission and park cables adjusted to the push buttoms. Transmission lines to the radiator will be fitted at this time. (Still dont have a suitable speeo cable to mate the 62 V8 Valiant Torqueflite box to the dash). With all the modifications to the motor and radiator, we were dreading the selection and fitment of the radiator hoses. The top hose was relatively easy... a cut here and a twist there, but the bottom hose was a drama culminating in the fabrication of an"elbow". Now it looks just like a bought one. We filled up the radiator with coolant and were relieved to find NO leaks yet! Tomorrow the front and rear screens are to be fitted. The front is NEW and was sourced locally much to my surprise. Thanks to Jeff Nichols we have great quality secondhand rubber gaskets with good elasticity easing the effort in final fitment. I am hoping to have the car going and registered by the end of this month but there are still a lot of little things to do!!! Veteran Posts: 114 Location: South Australia | She realy is comming along a treat Bob,the workman-ship is somthing that i aspire to...but we'll see how i go! As for your sump, like the saying goes...."If ya want a job done properly,do it yourself",...you can't pay people to have common sense. Just on your windscreen, where did you pick up yours? I am getting one imported from "Southern States Glass" in Vaginia, but just in case the unthinkable happens.... Also did you re-pamp your original windscreen rubber? I was told by a bloke that restored a '58 Plymouth, that his car come from Arizona and the windscreen rubber come out like a piece of iron!,He couldn't get another, but he was told by an old vehicle restorer to put it outside on a piece of cardboard and paint it with glycerine every day! So other than an ant invasion, the rubber became plyable over a couple of weeks and it's in his car today, with a new 'screen. I just wondered what you may have done to yours,as my Plymouth one looks pretty hard and i'll probably have to try somthing....
