Regular Posts: 76 Location: Rogersville, Tn. | Those of you that have replaced the inner rocker panels on your 57-59 dodge or desoto can you advise me where to go to get information on how to do this job. I have done quite a bit of body work on my on cars over the years, but I have never tackled a project like the inner rockers. Any help, direction you can provide will be appreciated. Wayne

Expert Posts: 2290 Location: Eastern Iowa | Wayne, I'ts basicly just a piece of flat sheet with opposing 90 degree bends. The trick is , they taper from front to rear. I did my driver side on the C but only the length of the door while I had the outer rocker off and while replacing the P/S pans and surrounding metal. The seat pan braces/gussets then weld to it as well as the renforcements that run crossways and under the hump. I took some pic's I'll look through them and see if any show the inner panel repair. Cut it loose from the outer rocker at that bottom lip. Becareful with it because you have to weld it back together there, assuming the outer rocker is good. Cut the floor pan loose from the horizontal section as it sets on that lip. Then cut the vertical section out that is welded to the inside window panel (assuming the car is a 2 dr). Look for the spot welds, that is what you want to cut or drill out. The rest of it will follow as you loosen it This is not as easy as it sounds, but not rocket science either. Go slowly and try not to destroy anything you don't have to replace. And paint the insides before reassembly, as it can't be done later. Good Luck! Jerry

Veteran Posts: 130 Location: Central NJ | Here are some pictures of how mine were done. The old spot welds were drilled out and whatever was left removed. Measurements were taken from what was left of the old part and copied for reference. I did not do this myself but managed to take a bunch of pics along the way. Elite Veteran Posts: 1102 Location: Hayward, Calif | That is some nice sheet metal work. Luckily, I didn't have to replace door sills. Don't forget to paint the insides. Jerry

Veteran Posts: 130 Location: Central NJ | Here is a shot of the inner rockers. And yes the inside was painted with a an epoxy paint using a long undercoating wand inserted int to cavity after it was all welded together.
