I currently don't own any "Forward Look" cars ... but for my first post, I thought I'd share a few pics of some of the '55 thru '59 Chrysler products that we have owned in the past ... My father's "daily driver" in the late 50s was this (Mild Custom) 1955 Plymouth Belvedere 4-door: I can't find any decent pics of my grandfather's 1956 Chyrsler New Yorker 4-door (but I'll keep looking). He bought it new ... special ordered it with a leather interior (not available on any 4-door models) and took delivery of it at the factory ... I guess Chrysler used to actually take care of their loyal customers! One of the three '57 Chryslers we owned was this "Jet Black" 1957 Chrysler 300 C Coupe (VIN: 3N572873) ... which I sold to John & Christie Lazenby in 1995: We had two '58 Chryslers ... this "Mesa Tan" 1958 Chrysler 300 D Coupe (VIN: LC4 1165) ... which I sold to Gary Campilongo in 1991:
... and this (originally) "Ermine White" 1958 Chrysler 300 D Coupe (VIN: LC4 1251) ... which my father sold (less FI emblems) to automotive artist Thom Taylor in 1990 ... in 1994 it was sold to David Hunn:
My parents "daily driver" from 1960 through 1965 was this 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible: Edited by FIN-ATIC 2009-04-27 9:56 PM

catman - 2009-04-27 10:07 PM Wow super nice photo collection. Thank you ... my (late) father was a professional photographer by trade ... so I do have a substantial collection of automotive photographs & slides. catman - 2009-04-27 10:07 PM You have owed rare FL cars in the past, specially that '58 fulie, how rare can that be. Did the new owner restored to OEM condition? According to Chrysler records, our "Fuelie" wasn't one of the 16-21 300 D's originally equipped with a Bendix Electrojector unit ... its "FI" emblems were the only items suggesting that it may have been "slated" to be a Fuelie car ... nothing under the hood showed any evidence that its 392 HEMI was ever fed via an EFI ... though I somewhat remember that the trunk had some funky cutout (perhaps for the Electrojector fuel pump?). catman - 2009-04-27 10:07 PM Looks like your father was the rodder/custom kind !!!!! Kool. Yes ... my family is into Hot Rods and Customs ... in fact, in the early 80s, my father located and purchased the famous "Clif Inman '57 Chrysler Custom" (built by Joe Wilhelm):

Expert Posts: 1918 Location: Hell's Outhouse - a.k.a. Buckeye, Arizona | Todd, I remember reading ages ago that some customers had their fuelie's retrofitted with carbs in place of the problematic Bendix injection by dealers not long after delivery/pick up. Same thing with a bunch of '58 Caddies, Olds' and Buicks, except in these cases, the original airbag suspension was the big lemon - most of 'em had the original dealers at the time yank the bags out & fit 'em with coil springs, which is why those air suspension GM '58's are hen's teeth today.

I've been lurking here for years ... but since I no longer own any FL cars, never thought it appropriate to join ... then today, I really needed to search the forums ... so I signed up! Dude! Please post Customs and Rods! Not everyone here wants to only see resto's, there's room enough for everyone (this isn't the Packard Club LOL!). And definately we're glad to have you here, doesn't matter wether you own you or not, not everyone here has one, yet they contribute just as everyone else. Jay

1961savoy - 2009-04-28 8:56 AM I have the 1990s Rod and Custom write-up on this car. The 3/4 view from the rear is simply stunning. Great pics! Yep ... the December 1991 issue of R&C included an article entitled "THE DARK SECRET: Clif Inman's famous chopped Chrysler Lives -- but we don't know where" [as well as a feature on our '58 Imperial (392ci HEMI) powered, chopped & channeled, '32 Ford 5-window Coupe]. The Clif Inman '57 Chrysler Custom was first featured in the March 1964 issue of R&C ... in an article entitled "Lean Long Luxurious". I have both of these R&C articles (and dozens of other images of the car) on my Photobucket site ... when a get "a round tuit", I'll start a new thread devoted entirely to the Inman Chrysler. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Chaney, I can't speak for 'purists' (that's supposed to be some kind of put-down, I guess, from hot-rodders?) but, I'll bet that most purists don't really care about what an original-owner, or an owner who might buy a car, within its first 15-or-so years of existence----think about all the Custom 300's, et al, running around, today--- might do to their cars. Todd, sure, post up all of your family's FWDLK rides! The more, the merrier. BTW, looking at your photos of the 57 300C, did your family do anything to the rear suspension, to raise its ride height? Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | The Inman Chrysler has always stuck in my mind as one of the, or perhaps THE most coolest Chrysler I've ever seen. I was one of the reasons I've bought a '57 Chrysler myself recently, one that had somewhat been customized already. I will take it a little further by lowering the (purple metallic) car and perhaps put some scallops on it aswell in the near future. I think I also recall your write-ups and pictures from the HAMB.

OK ... I'll probably regret this ... but by popular demand, I'll post a few pics of one of my "non-FL" cars ... ... a 1932 Ford Standard (5-window) Coupe (aka a "Deuce 5wd Coupe") built by my father ... he bought it (less its engine) for $40 in 1954 ... threw away the fenders, hood, bumpers, etc. ... channeled the body 6" in front, 8+" in rear ... and put a 1953 Chrysler (331ci) HEMI in it ... in 1956, he chopped the top 2.5" ... in 1975, we put the 1958 Chrysler Imperial (392ci) HEMI and the 1969 Dodge HEMI Torque-flite that it still runs today ... here's a couple pics of my Hot Rod:
... and here's a couple pics of its '58 Chrysler Imperial 392ci HEMI ... an A-1 block, .060 overbore (404.5 cu), interior deburred and painted, oil galleys opened up, 10 qt. DONZ oil pan, Milodon oil pump, polished rods, TRW 10.5:1 forged pistons, Federal Mogul bearings, Perfect Circle chrome rings, balanced by Ashland, Racer Brown cam (286 degree duration, 0.485 lift): NOTE: Before anyone gets their underpants in a bunch, the donor '58 Imperial was in a wrecking yard ... and totally unsalvageable! Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | You got any clips of the engine running? I wonder how that cam sounds and idles actually. I bought a .450" lift cam (1 step up from stock) from PAW recently for my 392 and was wondering if it will have some lope noticable in the engine. My hemi will end up in a fullsize Chrysler again most likely, so I didn't want to go too wild on the cam and lose low-end torque in the progress. Edited by BigBlockMopar 2009-05-06 6:05 PM

I have no (audio or video) clips of the 392 running ... but that's a good idea (I'll work on doing that). Yes ... the 0.485 lift cam in our 392 does have a bit of a noticeable "lope" ... but it is still a very "street-able" and reliable engine ... in the past 34 years, we've driven the car all over the United States [in all of the (lower 48) states west of the Mississippi River (and several east of it)] without any engine issues (knock on wood) ... and the 392 is no slouch when it comes to performance ... the coupe has run in the 12's (@ over 113mph) in the quarter-mile ... this was on street tires ... with the headers un-corked ... and with a '32 Ford chassis not setup for the drag-strip.

d500neil - 2009-05-06 3:28 PM Call me Olde Skool, but I really prefer the way the car looked in 1956. Neil ... What the heck is "Olde Skool"? ... I sure hope you weren't implying that you thought the "Circa 1958" photo was reminiscent of the so-called "Rat Rods" featured on the pages of Ol' Skool RODZ magazine ... ??? I will agree that the look of my HEMI-powered Deuce coupe has definitely changed throughout the years ... it has been a natural progression ... I'm actually partial to its early '60s configuration:
I still have those American Racing (Magnesium) Torq-Thrust & Torq-Thrust "LeMans" wheels ... and plan to run them on the car again! I also plan on getting a set of WWWs (with Lancer cross bar style hubcaps) mounted up so I can somewhat reproduce its late '50s look (sans black primer and the 331 HEMI).

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | "Olde Skool" is where hot rods don't have rear fenders installed on them, and, they wear wide (natch) white walls on them, front and rear, and spinner hubcaps, reverse-wheels, and/or Baby-Moons .....
