Yeah, I found out about the decal after I put it on! I have a spare , may repaint the housing and put a new one on some time!

Put new u-joints in one of my Imperials today.
Tires are old and I only use them for rolling cars around in the driveway.
Had some excitement when the tread decided to let loose all of a sudden while I was under it.

Replaced the rear axle seals on my 56 Royal Lancer. After doing the left side I realized I could do the right side a lot quicker but just leaving the brake shoes and everything connected to the backing plate and just unbolting the backing plate from the axle housing. I am replacing the master cylinder so I will have to bleed the brakes anyway.

Good thing that it's no longer Winter (is it?) there, or, you'd be out somewhere, dash-ing through the snow.

It's actually hot and humid now. Summer is really here.

Hey Greg!

Yes indeed, the interior is being restored back to the original black and white Regent/Savoy interior, instead of the green 57 Mayfair style interior that was in it when I purchased the car.

The steering column was a big part of this project, though, as it had to be fixed to put the original seat back in the original location.

David, you had mentioned that the seat location had been altered which puzzled me. NOW I understand. The longer steering column necessitated this change in location. Good to see it all coming together for you. Congrats!

Good progress, David. Can you show me a close up of scotch grain textures black?? I don't have any idea what that is!

You certainly have a deep top tint in that windshield. New door panels installed?

Yes the tint is deep and I really dont like it. I plan on replacing the windshield for a clear one later on.

The door panels are actually original ones that I restored myself by carefully pulling off the vinyl from the warped and broken backing panel, fabricating new panels and gluing the vinyl back.

I meant scotch grain textured black. Some call it a wrinkle finish too. It's the oem dashboard finish on 57-58 plymouth and canadian plodges. Most people just repaint their dash without the texture, but I am too much of a detail freak for that, and I had my paint guy replicate the texture.

I dont have a close up of what my painter did right now, but he did a fantastic job replicating that finish and it is as close as one can get to the original. Heres how it looks like in an unrestored car:

fortunately not fast, maybe 75mph in a 62mph zone. wtf? 3 wide lanes, 3 am, no traffic, straight road and 62 mph? highway robbery. last time they got me 9 years ago, but never paid and got away with it.

That would be a good new avatar for you, Sid!

That, or maybe the ticket; they DO send out a physical ticket, right?

At least you were maintaining the proper distances between cars, huh?

There's a moral to this story, but I dunno what it would be.

I wonder what the man was thinking as he typed up this ticket That speed is rather normal here. If you were going 80, thats another story. Hope you can shake it off. No valid reason to give a speeding ticket to a 54 year old car lol

Replaced the entire wiring harness in my car. Got the dash back in today and everything works.
I forgot how nice/noisy the sound of a mechanical clock can be.
Still have a few trim pieces to put back but at least it's driveable again.

I didn't work on my FL today...the water pump bearing has given out on my '58 Caddy, so I was prepairing a replacement pump for paint. You'd think a water pump would last longer than 56 years...

never heard that before that would be illegal today.
got the ticket. clocked at 121km/h, fined for 117km/h (-3%) speedometer was indicating 75mph or sightly below. i know now my speedo is dead on. actually i knew that before since the german roads are flanked with speed measuring devices that show how fast you are going, accompanied with a sad or a smiling face, depending if your speeding or not

I have been reading threads that touted the benefit s of just installing a new steering column isolator versus a new steering box. How could a $4 piece of rubber solve the problem?

Two Mercedes nuts (one was my son) were here today and they tackled the job. The steering slop is gone!

The old isolator was totally shredded and nearly falling out of position when we got to it.

I fired up the longrammed and stroked '60 NewYorker this evening to take it home and have it's bi-annual checkup done tomorrow.
Just after startup it was missing a cylinder so I gave it some throttle on the highway back home to 'blow out' the cylinders and burn the sparkplugs clean again... Luckily there are no speedcams on that stretch of highway

That looks great!

I put an interrupter-type brake light switch on the brake pedal of my '57 Suburban. The pressure switch worked fine, but only when there was enough pressure in the brake system to trigger it. I had one too many idiots try to run in to the back of the car in normal traffic. A small change, but worthwhile I think.

You should post in a separate thread Rick, the car and your good work deserves it. The OD is very interesting - I'm sure that more than me would like to know more about it.

Nice detailing and good to see the engine parts have been painted seperatly before being assembled, (and not the entire engine looks like it's dipped in a huge bucket of paint).

I have a build thread here: http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=46090

I just updated it. I also have a webpage for the car at www.60dart.com

Does the gear vendor unit share trans fluid with the transmission? Make sure you have a cooler on your trans and the OD if the fluid is separate.

No it carries it's fluid separately. They require a 5000 mile fluid change interval. It takes 28 oz with the standard pan, and 32 oz with their deep pan. There are no external fluid lines.

My fowardlook is loaded on a car trailor to be taken to the Tennesee Valley Mopar show. The Arm rests are in the process of being recovered.
