catman: i did originally want to change the colour to maize yellow with an alpine white roof... but now the original carnival red has grown on me so will remain carnival red... the interior needs nothing much... the seats are mint and the door trims fab condition also... need to reattach the bottom of the padded dash into the dash, get carpets, i bought a gauge surround thats in better condition than the one in there now and also have a dash clock to put in (thanks randy!) and thats about all for the inside... the just need to get some of the chrome straightened and get some white walls, put my blue dots on my new taillights, get some moonies and then reassemble... just one a NOS manifold/ carby on ebay (cost more than the $ i make in one week :S) and it needs a new exhaust also... everything after that should be ship shape, and hopefully i dont find anything else that is broken and needs replacing :S

neil: first i thought you meant typography... but i think that topography means landscape doesnt it? im going to polish my fury bar on the weekend lol...

cheers adriana

Polishing-off a Fury bar? Is that like a local 'watering hole' ?

In that case, I've polished-off a few of them myself (and had some FWDLK help in that regard, back in Tulsa/07, too) .

The 'mascara' and the 'eyelashes' are OK on 61 PLY's, but that orthodontic-retainer-appliance-looking grille guard is not
compatible with the lovely waterfall grille's appearance, imho.

But, hey, orthodontists make a lot of money, installing those things...

oscars home again... got back from the body shop today... i never realised that there were so many dents (well there all gone now)... as you can see he fixed all the dents and also re-fabricated the spare wheel well... also fixed the hinge on my bonnet... if you remember the dents that existed you will see what a marvelous job he has done... the desoto has been pulled out the shed for oscar to go in... yay! stainless is getting straightened as we speak, and found someone over here that stocks the bushes and ball joints that i need... we vacumed oscar today, also scrapped the old body shutz off of the floors and dad polished the door jams, they came up beautifully... now just need a painter, carpets, exhaust and white walls.... jason the tow truck driver asked if i had a name for it and i replied "yeah, oscar" he said he had been thinking about it and came up with hank... but thought oscar was better... i told him that id keep 'hank' in mind for my next sub adriana

Very kool work. I guess all the car floors look solid. When will you give oscar a new coat of paint?
Will you use new weatherstrips? Is your headliner cardboard? Will you keep it or is it damage? How about the chrome?
Again very impressive work.

so many questions... ok, here goes... floors are solid, except the spare wheel well which the body guy fabricated a new panel... oscar will get new paint as soon as i can find someone willing to paint him and at a DECENT price... i dont think new weatherstrips are in order.... headliner is cardboard, only problem is that it has drooped a little, the front section has a tear but is covered by the sunvisor, but i will replace the panel if i can find one... the chrome is fine, 5 pieces of stainless are getting straightened at the moment, headlight rings are dented, but i will roll with them until i can find some in better condition as it costs a fortune to get them straightened, the rest of the chrome with a polish comes up a treat, so there is no need to re-chrome... cheers adriana

Wow - very nice lookng work - he's come a long way!! Makes me wish could have kept my '61 and gotten it to that point. It's always scary to see your baby go away to the shop, there's so many horror stories. My DeSi is going away for metal work this summer, as soon as the guy is finished the '58 Vette he's working on now. I trust him ( so I say fingers crossed) - he's an old family friend and he worked in the local Dodge dealer's body shop for 30 yrs - one of the dealers Chrysler is now closing!! He's fabricating the patches, and I'm doing all the filling using lead, like in the days of old. Once your Oscar's paint is all done, he'll be starting to look like a new car! Post lots of pics!!

thankyou yeah my dads good mate (who is very fussy), knew this body guy cos he did all the body work on his '60 dodge polara d-500... erik the body guy is a wizz, hes in his late 60's, early 70's and is amazing... i was so stressed when i was getting told over the phone what was happening, i almost had a heart attack on more than one occasion, but i did trust him, and it worked out fabulously... i wish i had pictures of the work being done, because it would be interesting to see, for example how he tackled the huge dent in the rear quarter panel, the petrol tank was right behind it and its a double panel... but probably best i cant see or i would hyperventilate, lol... neil: not what i had thought of, the original owner was called oscar goodwin and when my workshop manuals i had bought on ebay arrived they had 'oscar written on the cover' i called my car oscar once and it kinda stuck, and now everyone uses the name... cheers adriana

I'd say it would have involved welding a 'pulling hook(s)' onto the panel and a slide hammer. Oops, I've said too much.

Great stuff Adriana - getting closer all the time. Don't forget to keep the folks at H6P updated.

Hey Adriana, good to see some serious progress. I think the original red should look nice. Are you doing the roof white or leaving it red? I think either will look great...keep up the good work...Anth.

Adriana, I think Oscar would look good in solid black - personal preference to be sure, but that wagon, with it's minimal side trim, would look clean as hell in black, IMO.....

Lots of Valiants Adriana but I've always loved FL cars. Passed up a cheap '59 CR 4dr sedan last year and am having lustful thoughts about the light blue '60 Windsor coupe on MM at the moment.

heya guys and gals... well oscar is off to the paint shop tomorrow... it was so hard to find a painter interested in painting such a large car and for not such a large sum of money... but i was able to finally, the turn around time is 3 weeks, so a lot quicker than some other painters... dad just finished all the front end work today, nice NOS manifold and carby under the hood, new wish bone and bushes, new ball joints along with a few other things... after the paints done, i need the exhaust done, need carpet (as i cant find any of the floor mats) i also need to get my dented headlight rings repaired... then i just need to put the car all back together and polish the stainless and bumpers... it then needs to be inspected and cleared for registration (this maybe the biggest hurdle) and hopefully this will all be done by february so that i can take it to 'all chrysler day' and 'mopar mega cruise'... wish me luck... will post pics when i have them... cheers adriana

i have a question? the seats in my Sub are original but are not '61 fabric, they are original though and have never been recovered.... is it possible that the fabric is '60 plymouth because it was a early production car? and they were using up left overs from the previous year? or would it have been more of a special order? adriana

What makes you think the fabric is not 1961?

well i did because i had only seen two '61 subs with the same fabrics, i just thought it was left over from the previous year or something, but i have solved this problem by scoring a dealership paint/fabric/data/bulletin folder and in there is this fabric and it was available for the deluxe model, which solves the question as the two suburbans that had this fabric were the only two deluxe models that we have found... so problem solved... cheers adriana

well here are the first photos from the paint shop... the body work needed a little bit of tidying up, they have rubbed back, undercoated and have almost finished smoothing it... oscar looks more like a concrete sculpture than a car at the moment... painting will commence in the next few days... whoop whoop!! how exciting... adriana

Here's a weird question, that I've never heard answered, before: Adriana, do you Southern types have different names
for the four earthly weather seasons?

I mean; there is no reason why Winter/Summer must necessarily refer to cold/hot seasons.

I've heard expressions like "your/our what-ever", but officially, is it "Springtime" where you live, or do you call this season
(like the different terms for the parts of a car) something else?????

southern types, lol... no we are normal: dec-feb is summer, mar-may is autumn, jun-aug is winter, sept-nov is spring... hell, im not that car obsessed that i would start renaming seasons of the year, days of the week, months of the year after cars... adriana

Oh, ok; the month names stay the same (obviously), but "Summer" and "Winter" are variable, but always refer to warm/cold weather.

Your/English cars' "hoods" are 'our' car's roofs; our 'hoods' are your cars' bonnets.

Here's one I bet you didn't know: your cars' boots are our cars' convertible-top coverings (that we snap-on, to hide the exposed
appearance of the retracted 'top'--'hood').

And, your water DOES drain down in an anti-clockwise direction (in your radiators---just to keep this on FWDLK-thread---lolol)?

I thought you 'guys' were going to ask me how 'smart' (-wise, get it?) that my clocks were, not which direction
they run, around the dial.

Is there a u-tube posting for water draining, in the So-hemi-sphere? That video could also-maybe have been reversed, too,
so I may just have to go personally observe water-draining in OZ, before I'll believe it--hmmmm...Wikipedia, or Snopes, maybe....?

Somehow, the name Oscar doesn't seem to match the car's personality, now....

ERIK, maybe...?

You're moving right along with the resto. Congrats on getting it thru paint. Now the fun begins.

Did he paint the car with the doors, fenders, hood, etc., already bolted on, or did he paint each panel separately and then reattach ?

I know that it's getting along toward your summer, but how long does that paint need to cure, before you can rub/polish it out?

It's so shiny, now, it looks to be clear-coated; rubbing out a clear coat is relatively easy to do, as you are merely knocking
it down. The color is permanently preserved, beneath the clear .
